The Kielbasa factory closed down in December 2006 but reopened as an Applebees restaurant on January 1st 2009 with new management In addition to its corporate HQs there are numerous smaller businesses located throughout town including: 2 grocery stores (Cascade Supermarket & Safeway), 3 pharmacies (Avery Pharmacy & Mediglas Drugs), 2 hair salons (Hairstyling Asylum & Baby Shampoo Palace), 1 convenience store (Big Scissors Store), 1 clothing store/imanufacturing plant (Wright Lumber Co.) as well as various restaurants including Bubba Gump BBQ fame Pizza Place, Mike’s Tavern Irish Pub and IHOP served up pancakes from 1950-2009 before they were replaced by Subway sandwich shops starting around 2010 although currently there’s still no IHOP open inside the old Kielbasa building! There have been attempts over time to reopen some or all these businesses but with very different results every time! There are also several educational institutions located within walking distance such as: Stonington High School which offers 9th through 12th grades; Southdale Community College which offers Associate degrees;MN Valley Technical College which offers Technology courses;Kiefer University which offers Doctorates along with many more health care related programs including Pathology and Veterinary Medicine Schools . Northfield also has few kilometers worth of trails perfect for hiking or running making it a great place to live if you love nature!
