North Branch is a town in St. Cloud County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. North Branch was organized as a village in 1881 and became a town in 1907. The name of the community comes from an Indian word meaning "the branch that goes out into the woods." The first settler in what is now North Branch was John Hanson who arrived there on horseback in 1851. He built a cabin on the north side of what is now Main Street and named it Hanson's Ford after his father, John Hanson, Sr., who had also settled there some time earlier. By 1870, other pioneers had followed and by 1872 there were ten families living in North Branch. In 1907, when St Cloud County was created, North Branch became part of it with its own government and post office system. In 1955, North Branch voters approved changing its name toMinnesota State Highway 24 (MNHS) in commemoration of the state highway's role in helping to establish the town as a farming center during its early years. MNHS has been upgraded multiple times since then but today remains one of its most important corridors connecting rural communities with urban areas throughout Minnesota including St Cloud and Ramsey counties as well as parts of Dakota and Iowa counties

North Branch, Minnesota is a small town located in central Minnesota. The population was 753 at the 2010 census. North Branch is known as the "Valley of the Lakes" because of its location on the waters of Lake Superior. The valleys that make up North Branch were named for two branches of the Sauk River which flow through the town. One branch, called the West Branch, flows into Lake Superior and forms part of the border between Canada and Wisconsin; while the other, called the East Branch, flows into smaller streams before ending at Racine County in Wisconsin. The first settled area in what is now North Branch was near present-day Hastings on Lake Ontario. A post office was established in 1854, and by 1870 there were twenty-six residents living in North Branch. In 1872 a sawmill was built on Big Stone Creek by John Brougham and his brother Samuel Brougham; this mill helped to support many early settlers in what would become North Branch. From 1872 until 1914 there were only five farmers living in North Branch; however, during this time period several mills closed and production stopped entirely from some local factors such as overpopulation or climate change caused by atmospheric changes brought about by industrialization throughout much of Europe (Lench). In 1914 William Eakins founded what would eventually become Eakins Paper Company; this company produced paper products such as envelopes and T-shirts until it merged with Mead Corporation in 1967. During World War II service men stationed here used their skills manufacturing ammunition to help finance their war efforts elsewhere (Hutchinson). After World War II almost all businesses closures except for one - a grocery store - led to an overall decrease in population within north branch during those years according to Hutchinson (2006). His co-worker at First United Presbyterian Church Rev James Fenton opened a post office near “Dutchman” Ferry landing () east of Hastings on December 12th, 1854 (). This outpost became known as “Northbranch Post Office” (). After Reverend Hennepin’s death no new postsoffice operated for more than four months because everyone who had received mail from him died suddenly due To cholera pandemic then occurring.(Rourke) With mail available again thanks largely to Captain John Mowery who operated an Indian trading post just south of Dutchman Ferry Landing(Peters) people began sending mail back home again starting on February 2nd 1865 when Captain Mowery set up shop again proximate Canadian frontier(Wright). By late summer 1865 Northern Pacific Railroad had arrived thru this area linking Canada with Chicago Illinois making life much easier for travelers(Healy) This railroad also connected lake Superior with DuluthMinnesota creating opportunities for transportation darlings like mining operations along its route!
