In 1909, John Halsey's grandson, Jens Hansen, purchased the mill from his father-in-law and renamed it New Ulm Lumber Company after his grandfather's old logging camp called "Old Ullam". The company began producing flooring for homes and other buildings before moving its operations to their current site north of downtown in 1922 when they acquired land from Snelling family heirs who had leased it from local farmers since 1868. In 1941, United States Steel Corporation signed an agreement with Jens Hansen to purchase all assets of several mills owned by Norwegian American Smelting & Refining Co., which had closed down due to World War II efforts to restrict shipments of aluminum needed for military production. United States Steel helped reopen these mills as United Metalurgical Works (UMW) under new management; General Motors Corporation bought UMW outright in 1951 and merged it into itsgm corporate structure that same year; however, United Metalurgical Works retained its name until divestiture by American Glue Corporation in 1984 which also changed its name to American Glue Operations Incorporated (AGO) AGO continued making high quality industrial glues until it ceased operations during the early 1990s as part of what was then known as Eastman Kodak Company's divestiture program; AGO's products last were sold commercially under those labels until 2013 when they were retired from production under new brand names such as EKG Proglide Glues and High Performance Renishaw Glues On May 15th 1895 residents of Buffalo Creek Township voted 4to3 not to annex any other townships within their township boundaries because they desired more autonomy within their own community while still being subject to common governance by Buffalo Creek Township Committee members elected through majority vote only Settlement occurred on July 1st 1896 when Drury post office opened with five settlers registered at that time After initial success with crop planting and livestock raising following discovery of oil shale resources near present day Hastings on November 8th 1902 by representatives from Duluth Mining Company AGO leased 6 acres surrounding present day Chaska Street where oil shale explosives were being developed for agriculture purposes which would become known as Refinery #1 HoweverRefinery #1 failed due lack of capital along with other projects initiated by AGO such as crude milk storage facility established on January 2nd 1904 at corner lot formerly occupied by Hotel Keystone

In 1865, the first school was built in New Ulm and it became an independent town within the county in 1871. The new town hall was completed in 1893 and is still used today as a municipal building.
