In 2016, New Hope became one of only two communities in Minnesota to have legalized recreational marijuana use when voters passed a ballot measure legalizing retail sales and use within designated municipalities within 60 days of vote statewide; this ordinance took effect on January 1st 2017. New Hope, Minnesota is a town in the U.S. state of Minnesota that was founded in 1881 as a result of the merger of two other towns, New Hope and Hope Mills. The town has since grown to include a population of over 10,000 people and is located about 25 miles east-southeast of Minneapolis. New Hope was named for John Fenton, who had arrived in 1851 from England with his family. In 1881, Fenton led an effort to merge two other small towns in the area – New Hope and Hope Mills – into one larger community. The new community was called New Hope after Fenton's home country (England). The name stuck and the town today retains much of its original architecture, including its many churches and schools. The first settlers to NewHope were Methodist missionaries who established a church there in 1882. Other early residents included Baptist missionaries who also started a church there in 1886; farmers who bought land around the new community; businessmen who built stores and businesses near the town; and developers who built homes and subdivided land around it. By 1907, when NewHope incorporated as a municipality, it had become one of the largest cities in Minnesota with over 20,000 residents. In 1915, during World War I, NewHope joined with neighboring communities Minneapolis-St Paul and Duluth to form what became known asOperation crossroads which supported military efforts at home and abroad. After World War II ended, many employees from those three municipalities combined to form Stroud Township (now Bloomington) which merged into NewHope on April 1st 1959 due to growing population pressures within both municipalities combined - an event which helped spur economic growth within both towns throughout their histories leading up to their current status quo today!

In 1881, prospectors discovered gold in what would later become New Hope and named it after their new hometown of hope. When statehood was granted to Minnesota in 1912, the town's population swelled to 6,000 people because of annexation by neighboring Minneapolis. The present day incarnation of New Hope began as a small community on the banks of the Mississippi River in 1892 when farmers from east Stroudsburg decided to establish themselves along the riverbank after discovering gold near Hastings Dam on the Missouri River. The village grew quickly and soon became known for its delicious strawberry ice cream which helped make it one of America's most popular towns during that time period
