In 1975, the Target Corporation relocated their business to nearby Duluth, Minnesota after purchasing the old munitions manufacturing plant there. New Hope, Minnesota is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 575 at the 2010 census. New Hope was founded in 1851 as a small community on the east side of the White Earth River. The town grew rapidly due to its location near the railroad and other businesses and became an important regional center for agriculture and trade. In 1903 it was renamed after William Broughton Newbold, 1st Baron Broughton of Knaresborough who had been killed in action during World War I. By 1925, however, New Hope's decline began as farmers moved out of the area and heavy industry took over. However, Progressivism helped revive the town in the 1940s and 1950s as it developed into an important cultural center for northern Minnesota. In recent years much attention has been given to New Hope's history tied to its role as a stop on the popular "Minnesota Vikings" football team's trek to Super Bowl XLIV in February 2008. The team had played at Rice University before moving to Minneapolis-Saint Paul before settling in nearby Eden Prairie in 2006. However, much of this focus has been misplaced and little attention has been paid to how New Hope also played an important role within Viking culture and history throughout many decades dating back prior to that game. One example is that early Vikings settled around what is now downtown NewHope while others established themselves around farms along White Earth River which flowed through their territory. One such farmstead can still be seen today on Third Street just south of Interstate 94: Smith & Sons Mill (now known as Millennium Park). From here they traded goods with Indians living along the riverbanks southwest of them while raiding other villages downstream or reaching upriver for fish they caught from rapids below these waters - all activities that would have likely connected their village communities closely both physically and emotionally across long distances by landbridge- like waterways do today! It should also be noted that there were two settlements closest to where Minneapolis now stands: Spring Lake about 20 miles upstream from where Eden Prairie sits today (the current site) while another settlement called Currieville was located only 10 miles northwest of present day Saint Paul! This shows just how interconnected local villages were not just geographically but also socially even though most residents likely resided within one or two miles’ radius of their homes - something that would continue until well into our contemporary era when distance limits have largely replaced these social ties especially among rural Americans!
