New Brighton, Minnesota is a small town located in the heart of the Great Lakes region. It has been around since 1854, when the first settler arrived and established a homestead on what is now known as Creek Road. The community quickly grew and by 1870 had a post office, school, and two stores. By 1900, New Brighton boasted a population of 507 people and was home to two churches and four businesses. The town's growth stopped after World War II because of its limited access to water supplies and other amenities. However, it has slowly regained some popularity over the past few decades thanks to its natural resources, history, and community spirit. One such owner was Nicholas Fenton who bought 666 acres in what is now New Brighton from James Wilson in 1857. The community has several properties on which it depends for its economy: including two churches – St John’s Lutheran Church & School and Christ Lutheran Church – both founded in 1875; a schoolhouse dating back to 1888; and four farms that produce crops such as hay, apples, carrots, potatoes, cornmeal flourishes and more.

Other early businesses include A&P grocery store, hardware store, post office, restaurant and dance hall which closed its doors but reopened as a hotel about 1970. In addition to these traditional business activities, residents also enjoyed fishing and swimming at nearby Lake Ontario before it was dammed up in 1937. During World War II, many local men contributed their time and services to serve throughout the war effort including manufacturing munitions for America’s allies such as Canada and Great Britain. Many of these men are buried at Greenwood Cemetery . After hostilities ended, New Brighton experienced increased growth due to job opportunities available outside of agriculture or fishing; however, some residents still relied on farming while others started their own businesses within the community or within neighboring towns during this time period

New Brighton became a city in 1869, and the first mayor was elected that year. In 1916, the town suffered an economic setback when the discovery of oil caused production to skyrocket, but it recovered quickly and regained its former nickname as "TheOilCity." In 1957, New Brighton became home to the world's first nuclear powered reactor, which helped revive the local economy. The reactor was decommissioned in 1990, but its legacy can be seen today in many ways - most notably through the numerous cultural attractions that remain active in New Brighton.
