However, over time,Target became one of the most popular hobbies in town. In 1907, Target opened its own store and continued to sell firearms until it closed in 1969. Since then, Second Chance Gun Shop has been the only business left selling firearms at this location. New Brighton is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 599 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. New Brighton was platted in 1857 and incorporated as a village in 1907. The name "New Brighton" comes from the phrase "a new start," because of the village's initial planned layout—two blocks long and one block wide—which resembled a new harbor on the river Riverina. The first settler in what became New Brighton was Abram Capps, who arrived in 1851 from Ohio with his family. He built a log cabin near what is now Main Street and started to cultivate land around it in 1852. By 1860, there were 10 settlers living in or near New Brighton. In 1865, John Larkin bought three acres of land northeast of present day Main Street for $10; he named it Larkin Prairie because he had heard about a prairie located east of Minneapolis that had been abandoned by farmers because it was too wet for farming purposes. By 1870, there were 20 residents living in or near New Brighton; most worked on farms outside of town until after World War II when they moved into nearby towns such as Falcon Heights and Maplewood to take advantage of better schools and other amenities available within those communities.[1] In 1907, following incorporation as a village, New Brighton began developing into an agricultural center with dairy production being its primary focus until 1949 when oil exploration began to take hold throughout western Minnesota andrews county which included much of rural eastern MN including parts of New Brighton township (later renamed Clinton Township). This led to rapid growth for both dairy exports and total agricultural production as well as greater reliance on trucks traveling through town delivering goods to local stores rather than walking or driving.[2] After years of decline during the 1970s due primarily to difficult economic conditions throughout Eastern MN overall, things have begunto improve somewhat since then with increased residential densities along I-35W while steady job growth has attracted many young people back into downtown areas such as Main Street where retail businesses once thrived but are now struggling against competition from larger housing developments further west across I-35W which have taken over many old industrial sites vacated by manufacturing companies during this time frame
New Brighton was founded in 1855 by homesteaders who took up land in the area after the Louisiana Purchase. The town quickly became a boomtown, with businesses and homes growing rapidly. New Brighton also played an important role in the early days of Minnesota's lumber industry, as its mills produced many of the state's earliest logs. In 1906, New Brighton was renamed part of Minneapolis after city officials felt that it had been unfairly taken from neighboring Rochester.
