They had six children: Ole Olsen Jr., Maren Olsen, Karen Kleppe, John Hansen Jensen (baptized 1840), Kirsten Rasmussen (baptized 1862), Anders Rasmussen (baptized 1865) and Birgitte Nielsen (born 1865). In 1861, Ole Olsen Sr.'s brother Rasmus Olsen started a farm east of town on County Road 5 near present day Eden Prairie. On November 10th that year they sold 1/2 acre of land comprising present day New Brighton for $1 cash to Forney & Company which operated a store there until 1870 when it closed its doors because of competition from the post office chain stores opening up around that time. In 1863 Maren's husband David Kleppe died giving her sole guardianship over their six children; she raised them all singlehandedly until her death in 1865 when they were placed with their maternal grandparents Kristian Andersen(1815-1900) and Mette Jensdatter(1792-1866). Although living alone for many years after her mother's death Maren continued to maintain close ties with her siblings as well as their mother's extended family back home in Aalborg where she resided until her own death on October 6th 1915 at the age of 90 years old.
