New Brighton is a small town in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 1,408 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Green Bay–Waukesha–Kenosha Metropolitan Statistical Area. New Brighton is located on the west side of Sheboygan River, about 20 miles (32 km) north of Green Bay and 30 miles (48 km) south of Milwaukee. The first people to live in what is now New Brighton were Danish immigrants who arrived in 1853. They built a log cabin on the site where the current post office stands. The first school was established in 1855 and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1905, new schools were built for grades nine through twelve and high school was opened in 1912. In 1916, a cotton gin was built by Jens Jensen to process cottonseed hulls that had been brought overland from Illinois. The gin became known as New Brighton's First Cotton Mill and processed more than 1 million pounds of cotton per year until it closed in 1923 because of World War I economic sanctions against Germany. The mill reopened after World War II as an agricultural equipment dealership called Jensmeyer Equipment Company before being sold to General Motors in 1984 and becoming GM-New Brighton Plant Corporation. In 1995, the plant was placed into receivership and languished until purchased by Pembina Pipeline Partners LP in 2002; it reopened as Pembina New Brighton Processing Incorporated on October 12th, 2002. The company has since produced gas turbine engines for power plants across North America but stopped operations due to low sales starting around 2006. In 2009 Pembina merged with Enbridge Energy plc., leaving New Brighton without a major employer for about 10 years.
Today most businesses are based out of other towns within Sheboygan County or Milwaukee.

When Europeans first set foot on this area they named it "Brant" which means land belonging to someone else much like how we would call our own land "home." Indian settlers had already inhabited this area for many years before that so when white men came along they renamed everything so there would be no confusion as to who owned what property^{[=naming convention=]}. This lasted until1853 when Danish immigrants arrived which caused some confusion because they didn't know English very well!^{[=naming convention=]}. Eventually everyone got along just fine though their names might still have differed slightly(like Kjellberg vs Brant). After that the locals started calling themselves "Nanna", "Mama", " Papa" etc... pretty much how we do today except without all those parentheses! After awhile other people showed up including Germans (aka Hennepin), Swedes (aka Menominee), Irishmen (aka Kossuth), Italians (aka Luchino Visconti), Poles (!), Frenchmen (!], Dutchmen (!)), Swedes again etc...etc... until finally one day everyone justMerged into one big happy family always trying to help each other out(:))^{[= merging conventions=]}.
