In 1872 pioneer settlers named their town after this impressive resource stand—an event chronicled by local historian Alonzo Wimberly in his 1889 book "Minnesota Pioneer Trails." Today's shopping district centered around First National Bank & Trust Company—one of four banks original to the area—includes more than 60 businesses including five grocery stores, four jewelers/watchmakers/, three fabric stores and six hair salons/.
