Gun targets have been a part of the Mounds View community for decades. The first target was placed in front of the old post office in 1916. In 1871, the first gun factory in Mounds View was built. It produced rifles and shotguns. In 1898, a machine shop was added to the plant. The plant produced firearms until it closed in 1951.
Mounds View is a small city in the US state of Minnesota. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Mounds View is located on the Mississippi River and is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. It was founded in 1854 as a trading post by Alexander Macdonald and his brother-in-law, David Rice. Girded by natural hills, Mound View grew rapidly during the early 19th century as settlers arrived to farm and trade in what is now downtown Mounds View. The town's name comes from an aboriginal word meaning "a mound containing earth or sand." Mounds View experienced some rapid growth during World War II when many soldiers, sailors, airmen and their families moved into the city for military service. Today, much of downtown has been preserved as part of the City of Moundsview Historic District which contains over 100 buildings dating back to 1854 including pioneer homes such as Macdonald's residence and Rice's millinery shop. In addition to its history, MoundView features several fine restaurants including Sizzle Steak House & Lounge (named after one of its original owners), Blue Lagoon Seafood restaurant and IHOP Twin Peaks Diner - all within walking distance of each other on Nicollet Avenue near Center Street.

These early guns had very slow firing rates and required someone to make the shot call for it, which made them difficult to use effectively.
Mounds View is a small town in southern Minnesota, located on the edge of the Great Lakes region. The community was founded in 1853 by fur traders and their families as a stop on their way to trade with the Northwest. Mounds View became an agricultural center after settlers developed large tracts of land around it. In 1916, Mounds View was incorporated as a borough. Today, Mound View is a commercial and residential area with a population of about 3,000 people. The first known inhabitants of what would become Moundsview were the Menominee tribe. They first arrived in 1795 and named their territory after Chief Menominee's home village—Mound Valley or "Mound Town." The tribe moved westward from their original home in the eastern Ottawa River Valley and settled near present-day Minneapolis in 1817. By 1853, men from Buffalo Bayou had reached the current site of Moundsview after traveling downriver on ice floes during the winter of 1850–51. In 1853, fur traders Alexander McKay and James Watt established trading posts at both ends of Lake Superior along what is now Interstate 94; these posts served as stops for travelers between Detroit and St Paul via the Lac du Flambeau Rapids (now Cooks Falls). On April 6,1853, McKay sold his post at Mary’s Lick (now Fenton) to John Hennepin for $1,500 plus expenses. In 1865–66, McKee sold two more trading posts at Mary’s Lick: One to Leonard Wahl for $2,500 and one to Jens Jensen for $4,000+. These trips led traders into new areas that had not been explored before due to lack of transportation available across those waters at that time. At this point in history there were only five steamer packet boats plying those waters per week! In 1916 when Minneapolis was founded as a city Limitsborough Prairie Township Municipality by combining parts of seven townships including Moundsview Township (renamed Bloomington Heights), vast amounts of farmland lay within its borders but no one wanted to set up shop there because they didn't think it would be worth it given how much easier it was to get products out into civilization than back into nature! So developer George Prentice came up with an idea to have enough room inside city limits so that he could build his namesake town instead! What did George do? He started building homes!!! And guess who else got involved? The council members from neighboring cities who all thought this would be great business opportunity since they could see all sorts of development happening right next door without having to leave their neighborhoods! It worked out so well that today you can still find old buildings from back then dotting every inch OF downtown MN!

The town gradually grew, becoming a commercial center with a population of around 100 in 1851. It was named for nearby Mound City, Iowa, which had been founded by French traders earlier that year. In 1863, Mounds View became part of the newly created state ofMinnesota and changed its name to Minneapolis.
