Mounds View is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,848 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1854 by Eclectic Methodists from Illinois, who named it for the Mound View Cemetery located about six miles (10 km) east of town on the banks of the Mississippi River. The first settler to arrive in what is now Mounds View was Simeon Weems, who arrived in 1855 and built a house on land that he bought from John Forney. One hundred men and women followed Weems to settle in what became Mounds View Township on February 22, 1856. A post office called Mounds View was established in 1857, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1920. The township's first mayor was Fenton Dixon; its first justice of the peace was Solomon Crouch; and its first public school teacher was Mrs. Mary Hodgeman. In 1915, during World War I, General Electric constructed an electric power plant south of town which generated enough electricity to run all the homes within a five-mile radius without drawing any power from neighboring communities; this helped spur economic development around Mumpsville and other nearby villages which were then connected by electric lines into central cities like Minneapolis/St Paul through distribution companies such as Northern Electric Company or American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T). The company also constructed two large dams across the Mississippi River: one near Granite City downstream from present day White Bear Lake while another just upstream above present day Anoka County at Bozeman Dam. These projects led to increased traffic along Interstate 94 and created new jobs throughout southern Ramsey County which benefited both residents and businesses bordering Interstate 94 including those near downtown Minneapolis/St Paul where factories had been built prior to World War I whenbridges like Uptown Manhattan Bridge linked inner city neighborhoods withouter suburbs like Edina or Maplewood outside of downtown Minneapolis/ St Paul .
