The first firearms were brought to Mounds View by the Dakota Sioux in 1851. The community was founded on the banks of the Missouri River, and early rifle and pistols were made here. The area now known as Mounds View was settled by Scandinavian Americans in the late 1800s. Ammunition production began here in 1907, and rifle target shooting started here in 1911.

Mounds View is a small town in west-central Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,664 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. Mounds View is located on the banks of the Dakota River and within walking distance of both downtown Minneapolis and Valley Stream Park. The first known inhabitants of what is now Mounds View were Indians who lived near present-day Hastings on the Iowa side of the river. The town began as a trading post called "Hastings" on the opposite bank of the river from where it sits today in 1896 when Jesse Ladd, Sr., founded Hennepin County, Minnesota. Moundview was originally named for an early settler's mound which he discovered while prospecting for coal near present day Hastings, Minnesota in 1872. At that time there were no towns or settlements in this area other than Indian villages and hunting lodges scattered along either side of the riverbank where coal could be found. In 1897, when Hennepin County was organized into regions within newly created Minnesota, Moundview became one of five towns included in what would become Ramsey County; however it retained its original name until 1912 when it changed to Moundview Township after being donated by Mrs. Emma Ladd to her husband Jesse Ladd Jr., son of immigrant pioneer Jesse Ladd Sr.. The township seat remained at Hastings until 1915 when it moved to nearby Mendota (now Bloomington). Bordering Mendota Township were two other townships: White Earth and Crookston until their incorporation into Ramsey County as well in 1912; these latter two had been established by Norwegian immigrants who had immigrated through Saint Paul during the late 1800s to farm land around Mendota Lake and then move downstream alongriver towards Hammondsport (now West Bloomfield). These days only White Earth still exists as a hamlet with a few homes remaining around Prospect Heights off US Highway 169 across from Mendota High School; while Crookston has long since disappeared completely from sight behind intervening farmland situated parallel to I-35W just south of WhiteshellSkan Point Reserve Preserve Important Bird Area adjacent thereto - all that remains are some spoil piles remnant evidence oldest cabin built there circa 1830 occupied by Crow Creek Missionary family prior to repeated flooding that destroyed site ca 1870 A large fire burned down most trees surrounding old home & school building Oct 10 1888 17 years before Stonington Massacre also stands tall Foster Cabin dating back over 2 decades another reminder this community not immune from tragedy ----- From map courtesyMinnesota Historical Society Map data

Mounds View is a city in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–Saint Paul metropolitan area. Mounds View is located on the banks of the Mississippi River and it has been known for its lead mines and as a center for agricultural production since before European settlement. The first known inhabitants of what is now Mounds View were Native American traders who traveled along the river in search of trade goods. In 1824, Englishman James K. Polk called the site "a beautiful spot on the bank of theMississippi," and he soon began to explore its potential as a location for an American military post. In 1830, General David Rice donated land to form what would become Mounds View Township. The township was named in honor of Major General George Armstrong Custer, who had died in battle two years earlier during the Mexican-American War. In 1836, Custer's widow purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) east of town from Jens Ludwig Schulte for $2,000 cash and laid out agriculture as a means to support her son's cavalry regiment that she would name after him: Custer's Horsemen Regiment (later renamed 1st Infantry Division). She also established a school which taught young women how to read and write while still living within Indian country; this institution became one of Mound View's most important landmarks after white settlers arrived and started farming there. In 1847, construction began on what would become Uptown Wharf Landing on where today's Pioneer Bank stands; this site served as Blackhawks Point until 1962 when it was replaced by Interstate 94W EB Johnson Road which runs parallel to both banks of the Mississippi River just north of downtown Moundview proper. The wharf allowed goods being shipped downriver from Stroudsburg upriver into Minneapolis to be unloaded at lower levels without going through downtown or into town Creek & Main Street where transportation costs were high enough that larger industrial items needed to be hauled by horses or wagons overland from those locations rather than being transported by boat or train across the river each time they were needed; this increased traffic demand led directly to development at Uptown Wharf Landing which eventually became one of Minneapolis' largest commercial areas with warehouses and other businesses lining either side of I-94W EB Johnson Road between Hennepin Avenue North and First Street South/Midtown East during its early years while also becoming home to many families who worked in nearby manufacturing plants such as Wabash Cannon Works Company which made artillery pieces used during World War II By 1870, however, much smaller mills had closed down due largelyto competition from large railroads coming into town while newer factories took their place producing automobiles (Dugway Arsenal), radios (Westinghouse Radio Laboratories), shoes (Litton Shoes), tires (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company) etc.; these new developments led directly to decline in business around Uptown Wharf Landing beginning about 1920 until it ultimately shuttered about 1970 despite efforts by local authorities including passage of legislation establishing parkland adjacent to Uptown Wharf Landing containing various recreational amenities including an amphitheater capable seating up to 6,000 people along with basketball courts javelin pits etc., continuing until recent times when it has been slowly but surely revitalized thanks in part especially unto MnDOT's investment particularly thru programmable lighting throughout facility making it possible once again for visitors both small children playing among buildings near water surface & adults taking pictures/video inside [1] . By 1870 however only 2%of all cotton exports went out via wharf landing instead going mostly upriver via Hullsport Ferry across Missouri River

In 1858, the United States Post Office moved from Bloomington, Illinois to what is now Minneapolis. American traders and travelers began to explore this new land, and soon enough there were several settlements established around theMNPostOffice: St. Anthony Falls in 1859, Mankato in 1861, Brooklyn in 1865, and Rochester in 1867. Mounds View was founded on July 3rd, 1889 by lumberjacks working for Deere & Company. It quickly became an important stop on the railroad network because it had a large lumberyard which allowed for high-quality product to be produced
