Moorhead is a town in Minnesota, United States. The population was 9,719 at the 2010 census. It is the ninth-largest city in Minnesota and the second-largest city in Dakota County. Moorhead is located on the banks of the Missouri River, about 25 miles west of Fargo and 50 miles east of Minneapolis. The first permanent settlers in what would become Moorhead arrived from Illinois in 1871. They were farmers who built a log cabin on a bend in the river and named their town after George A. Moor, one of their number. The first school was open for only three months before it burned down; however, students from nearby Farmington Elementary School attended meetings to plan how to build a new school. In 1881, a post office was established at Moorhead and mail service between Fargo and Minneapolis began operations that year. The first store opened at 5th Street and 1st Avenue in 1902, just east of present-day First National Bank building on 1st Avenue South. By 1907, there were four stores and nine businesses operating along 2nd Avenue South when Businessman Harry Wolk set up his clothing store there in 1913 as one of several small businesses dotting downtown streetscape during that period of growth for Moorhead which included annexations by other municipalities over time: 1915 ( farmer Floyd Hering’s grove), 1916 (Horace Greeley Square), 1917 (Gordons Park), 1919 (Harding Heights) In 1920, local citizens banded together to form an agricultural society with goals such as providing better seed storage facilities for farmers so they could ship more crops to market In 1922–23 construction started on what would become known as “The Mall” which served as both business headquarters for many years until it went out OF COMMERCIAL USE IN THE 1970S due to financial difficulties In 1923 Grand Forks annexed part of Moorhead while still maintaining its own government separate from that within Dakota County; this annexation led to calls among some residents within Moorhead for incorporation into Grand Forks . On October 10th 1925 – just one day after becoming an incorporated municipality – voters passed proposition No . 6 asking for authorization by referendum to secede from Dakota County altogether ; this referendum failed by a wide margin but did lead to increased awareness among residents about their right to do so should county officials not live up To Their promises made during campaign season

Moorhead is located in Ramsey County and has a total area of just over square miles. It lies on the banks of the Red River which forms its border with Dakota County to the south and east. The town was originally named after General Andrew J. Moorhead who led United States forces during the Mexican-American War. General Moorhead's son, John F., also played an important role in early life for Moorhead when he served as postmaster and justice of peace. In 1893, John F.'s brother-in-law William Hennepin opened a grocery store in what is now downtown Morro Bay which soon became one of the most popular tourist attractions in town. In 1907, Morro Bay Mining Company merged with other mining companies to form Northern Mines Limited which would later become Canada Minerals Ltdorporated (CML). In 1912, Harry Schieffer opened his first grocery store in downtown Morro Bay which would become known as Schieffer's Grocery until it closed in 1984. The first post office for Moorhead was established on February 17, 1882 by James Wiegand with mail service starting on March 5th that year. At that time there were only two stores open in town: Wiegand's Store and Smith & Frye's Drugstore both operated by John Fowleson Jr.. On November 1st 1903 Wiegand died leaving his business to his son James who continued running it until it closed down circa 1951 - making him one ofMorroBay’s longestRunning Businesses! On October 7th 1901 local pioneer Emilie Kapp entered into a marriage contract with Norwegian immigrant Ole Olsen who had come to America from Kristiansand Province aboard ship “Norwegian Prince” arriving at Ellis Island on September 27th 1880 aged 24 years old! They would have 4 children together: Olsdatter (1901-1982), Ebba (1903-1991), Mette (1906-2002) and Torstein (1908-.1968). Ole Olsen would start working for Dallis Bros./Dalhousie Mfg Co doing odd jobs around town before eventually becoming their foreman accounting for everything from collection services to lumbering sales! From 1905 until 1925 he also ran Norwegians American Legion Post #1 within walking distance of our current Morro Bay Library! Emilie Olsen sadly passed away at age 96 years old after many illnesses!!! During World War I veteran George Hagerty enlisted with Army Corp stationed at Fort Snelling where he worked as an electrician; however due to injury he never returned home! George Hagerty passed away at age 92 years old living out his remaining days under a barn near our church! On October 8th 1914 local farmer/mechanic Julius Wecker married 26 year old Nellie Ziegler from Duluth MN she had emigrated via steerage trip via SS Adelaide arrived New York City Mar 14 1861She had been bornAnna Basilewska but changed her name to Nellie Ziegler prior to coming stateside!! They would have 3 children together: Julius Wecker Jr.(1920-) - Army Corps man stationed at Fort Snelling during WWI; Bertha Zeigler(1925-) - civil servant employed by US Government Floyd Bennett Federal Housing Authority;(1945-) – Marriedto social worker Lorraine Ahern selfemployed dairymaid) .Nellie Ziegler Sadly Passed Away At Age 95 Years Old Living Out Her Rest Under A Barn Near Our Church
