In 1895, the town of Monticello was platted and sectioned off into precincts. A referendum approved annexation by Ramsey County in 1902. In 1925, the Monticello Rifle Club was established to help promote hunting and shooting in the town. TheMonticello Pistol Club also existed from 1925-1935. Ammunition sales began at the post office on First Street in 1915. In 1935, Monticello had its first public library which served as the nucleus for many future community libraries across Ramsey County. In 1957,Monticello had its own fire department which became operational that year with three trucks and a station house on Second Street. In 1963,Monticellocounty government moved from its original location on First Street east to what is now known as Government Center Square where it remains today
Monticello is a small town in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. The Monticello post office was established in 1885. Monticello is located on the banks of the Missouri River. The first settler in what is now Monticello was John Swift, who arrived in 1853. He named his land "Monticello" after Mount Vernon, Virginia, where George Washington and family lived during their time as American Presidents. A schoolhouse and log cabin were built here in 1855 by Reverend James Cramer for the Methodist Episcopal Church. A sawmill operated here until 1865; then it stopped making lumber because of low demand from settlers for boards and other products made from tree trunks. In 1908, Monticello became one of fifteen townships (towns are local governments within a county) organized within Hennepin County under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Minnesota State government. That year, Monticello's population reached 1,343 people and its post office opened with this name. In 1916-17, work began on building a new courthouse which would become home to both the county court house and district court buildings; these structures were completed in 1918-19 when construction also started on a new public school that replaced an earlier school building that had been destroyed by fire six years earlier. The old courthouse burned down on July 15th 1936 but was rebuilt shortly afterwards with additional features including a jail cell tower that still stands today (alongside several other historical landmarks). Monticello has experienced many changes over the years including growing suburbanization beginning around World War II followed by more recent development which has included large housing subdivisions along Interstate 35W leading down to riverfront neighborhoods such as those seen around Lake Minnetonka and Stroudsburg; all of which have led to increased traffic congestion on Route 169 through town center/riverfront areas during peak times! Today there are still some select upscale neighborhoods located near downtown while other parts of town continue to experience modest levels of growth with more businesses opening up since moving away from rural life ago!

The first settler in what is now Monticello was David Logan in 1857. He built a cabin on an old sawmill site that he and his family used as their summer home until they moved to larger quarters near Burnsville in 1860. In 1870, Logan's son James founded Monticello Academy which remained an educational institution until it closed its doors in 1971. In 1907, Samuel Snively purchased land east of Monticello and began to build what would become Snively Park which includes a water tower, playground, tennis court, and football field. The park became a national landmark when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Today, Monticello is a sleepy agricultural community with few commercial attractions other than one grocery store and one farmacia located about two miles from the center of town. However, there are several historical sites within walking or biking distance including: -Logan Cabin Site - This isolated cabin dating from 1857 sits atop a rise overlooking rural Anoka County today accessible by means of an easy path along forest trails that wind through tall trees nearby -Monticello Academy - A former educational buildings standing just north ofthe present day library complex were once home to both Montero High School (now part of Target) and Highland Elementary School before closing down circa 1970s following suburban expansion elsewhere adjacent to campus; these buildings remain largely unaltered today with classrooms/ Administration offices still extant (see photo below) -Snively Park - Named for Samuel Purdy who purchased original land here between 1907-1909 this expansive open space extends nearly 8 acres northward from I-75W just south of Burnsville into Hennepin County; features baseball diamond/wading pool/restaurant complex/multiuse Trail System linking many various points around sprawling reservoir area comprising diverse landscape types spanning Moderately Hardwood Forest surrounding rolling hills forming more moderate Hills & Plains behind main structure composed primarily OF MOSSES & GAS LAGOON #2 pic https://i2.wpimg.com/u/56986971/_thumb_zps9lfglk0a1dvxhdpi8cw_500px?fit=500%2520px&ssl=1&ssl_key=e7f4fe91e089bcfbccbf3cbe6ddcdceae4ed233&fit_height=auto
