According to the Koster-McDowell Census Schedule for 1910, there were 2 businesses with a combined total of $5,812 in sales: A store and a bakery called "Monticello's" and also an insurance policy agency known as "Mountain Valley Insurance". There were 3 residents employed in business: 1 farmer (J.C.), 1 laborer (Haley), and 2 merchants (Ethel). In 1915 there were 5 residents employed in business: 4 farmers (Benson, Cowles, Henshaw, John), 1 laborer (Lambert), and 2 merchants (Wright & Olcott). The only resident who had retired then was J.C., who died in 1976 at age 90 years old. In 1920 there were 9 residents employed in business: 7 farmers (Albright, Armstrong, Barnes, Chapin, Cowles, Dorman-Fletcher*, Hogan**), 2 teachers/nurses ('Mrs Corwin' & 'Miss Laughlin'), 1 laborer ('Joe') - all are listed as working for their families; 3 ratepayers; one inhabitant served on village council 1922-'24.* On July 17th 1905 the first school opened up under the auspices of Mrs Cramer* (* Miss Blythe McDermott) after many trials by her husband * Rev George Cramer who taught local Indian children until his death aged 50 years old on October 10th 1902 when he became pastor at Monticello Congregational Church which he founded with Mrs Cramer* On October 15th 1902 Rev George Cramer married Miss Emma Sibley from Hennepin County MN They raised three children within 6 months – Bertha born November 11th 1903†† Emmalee February 14th 1904‡‡ Alice May 25th 1906‡§ . On September 8th 1907 Ethel bought 80 acres east of town from Waddell farmsteads for $2 per acre sold with this money she began building what would become known as her home today’s school house where she lived until her death on December 12nd 1962″

In 1911, Italian-American arms manufacturer Beretta introduced their first concealable pistols into America with the Model 441/44 revolver. These handguns utilized an innovative new style called an "olivetti" magazine well that allowed magazines to be stored in either the right or left hand side of the gun without having to remove both guns from contextually incorrect positions (e.g., if you had your hand resting on top of your shoulder). This innovation allowed for more comfortablegun handling and significantly reduced recoil when firing these firearms. Monticello is a small town in central Minnesota, located about 30 miles northeast of Minneapolis. The Monticello School District serves the town and its five villages. The population was 2,951 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Monticello was John Pritchard in 1868. A post office called Pritchardville was established in 1870, but it was discontinued in 1872. The first settlers named their community after Mount Rushmore National Monument, which lies to the south-east of the town. In 1904, Monticello became a city and remained so until 1955. In that year, it merged with neighboring Burnsville to form a new municipality called Burnsville-Monticello. The original white school building in Monticello (the current structure) opened on October 5th, 1895. It functioned as a boarding school for boys from young age until 1903 when girls were admitted into the school district as well. After that point, the building served primarily as an agricultural store and post office until 1938 when it began to be used as a public library serving both the town and its five villages. In 1954, Consolidated Electric Cooperative replaced wire service throughout much of rural Minnesota withTelephone Service Corporation (TSP). At this time TSP also provided electricity to all municipalities within its service area including Monticello except for Burnsville-MontICELLO where they continued to provide power through private companies such as Northern Lights Power Company until 1978 when state government assumed responsibility for those services under Title III of the Public Utility Regulatory Reform Act (PRA).
