Monticello is a small town in the northwestern corner of Minnesota. It is located on the shores of Lake Monticello, which forms the eastern border of the town. The community was founded in 1854 by Norwegian immigrants. At that time, there were only two guns in the community: a shotgun and a rifle. The first handgun to be manufactured in Monticello was an 8-shot revolver made by J.B. Sauer & Co. In 1911, Monticello became one of the first places in Minnesota to legalize handguns with a permit system. In 1968, Monticello became home to the world’s first ever gun sling shooting competition, which took place at Winchester Park on Saturday, September 5th and concluded with a final round of matches on Sunday morning (September 6th). That year also saw the first ever use of shotguns as part of law enforcement protection operations when officers from Ramsey County responded to complaints about drunken citizens using firearms without permits or registrations. Since then, gun slings have become an integral part of local culture and history in Monticello. They are used as both target practice and artillery during Fourth Of July fireworks displays and other events throughout summertime; they are also used as relaxation tools for seniors during twilight hours; and they provide an opportunity for children to get close up experience with firearms while learning safety skills

Monticello is a small town in far north-central Minnesota. The population was 514 at the 2010 census, down from 621 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Duluth–Superior County metropolitan area. The village of Monticello was organized in 1851 as part of a larger township west of what is now Minneapolis. Its first settler, Captain John Heineman, arrived in 1853 and began exploring for land that would become Monticello. He found a tract that he named after his eldest son, Charles Morris Monticello (1811-1882). In 1865, Captain Heineman's grandson, Willard Hennepin, purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) northeast of where Monticello now stands from James Hennepin for $2 per acre ($27 per hectare). In 1870, local farmer George Wessels platted and built what is now the Village Hall on a site which he had bought from James Hennepin. The first post office was established at this location on November 2, 1870. By 1880, there were six businesses in the Village Hall: two grocery stores and four flour mills operated by Jens Jensen and others; one theatre; one hotel; and two schoolhouses open to male students only. In 1912 saw the opening of an athletic stadium called "Duluth Stadium" on land donated by Colonel Edwin Sibley (1868-1932), president of Minneapolis Telephone Company Limited (). A football team known as "Monticellians" played its first game against present day Dakota Wesleyan University on October 14th 1912 under head coach Paddy Ryan (1889-1959). From 1921 until it closed its doors in 1930 due to financial difficulties (), Duluth Stadium served as home field for both men's soccer games played by Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletics Association teams () and women's volleyball matches played by United States Women’s Volleyball organization (). After all playing fields were leased or sold to other organizations including agriculture (), Duluth Stadium became an agricultural fairgrounds known as "Monticelli Park". On July 15th 1956 when Interstate 94 was completed bypassing Montgomery County , parts of downtown Duluth were destroyed when Heavy rains caused extensive flooding along Milk Riverfront Street . The park opened back up but lost most if not all its contents including most or all buildings dating back to pre-I-94 days including Village Hall which still stands today looking out over I-94 bringing peace into what had been a chaotic scene around it
