According to the United States Census Bureau, the village had a total population of 602 in 2010: 568 of whom were male and 382 female. The racial makeup of the village was 97% White, 1% African American, 0% Native American, 2% Asian Pacific Islander, and 2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4%. As of 2000 there were 440 households out of which 36 (8%) had children underthe age of 18 living with them, 60 (14%) were married couples living together, 10 (2%) had a female householder with no husband present, and 75 (21%) were non-families. 54 (13%)of all households were made up of individuals and 17 (5%) had someone who lived alone who was 65 years of age or older. One story says that when John Akeley (the founder of California) visited Hennepin County he saw all these white pine trees and asked where these came from? People said “from up high” so he took them home and started chopping down some more! From this experience he realized how valuable these trees were going to be once his land got title to them! So another story says that when Captain James Cook set out on his career as an explorer he also happened upon this region while on his way southward – so he named part of what we now callMinnesota after him (Hennepin County).
