Monticello, Minnesota is an unincorporated community in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. It is located on the west bank of the Canadian River. The community is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. As of 2010, it had a population of 2,512 people.[1] In 1851 Monticello was named for Captain John Monticello who surveyed and mapped what would become Minnesota. He also built a mill hereabouts which continues to be in use today as a source of flour and other materials for local mills. In 1916 the post office was established at Monticello and remained in operation until 1960 when it was supplanted by Midwestern Telephone Company's telephone line through Stittsville. The community began as a small farming village with up to 100 residents[2][3]. By 1930 there were only six dwellings remaining in the community[4]. The population began to decline rapidly during World War II due to戦争 and the war effort; by 1945 only twenty two residents remain[5]. By 1950 there were just six homes left in Monticello[6][7] but this declined even further during the Korean War when all but one home ceased operations[8][9]. Monticello slowly regained its previous population level from about fifty five residents in 1970 until about one hundred thirty five residents currently live there as of 2010 according to recent census data[10]; however this number could rise if new housing developments are approved or begun within town limits

In 1903, the company produced its first rifle, the Model 1895 Springfield rifle. The rifle was designed by George Stephenson and manufactured by the company until 1915. In 1907, the company produced its first shotgun, the Model 1904 pump-action shotgun. The shotgun was designed by Orville Browning and manufactured by the company until 1912. In 1911, the company produced its first pistol, the Model 1908 revolver. The revolver was designed by John Browning and manufacturing by the company until 1914.
