Monticello is a small town in rural Minnesota, located about 25 miles south of Minneapolis. The population was 597 at the 2000 census. Monticello is one of the few small towns in Minnesota that still retains its early firearm hat history. Monticello started as a crossroads on the prairie, and soon developed into a thriving agricultural community. Firearms were common in this time period, as farmers needed to protect their crops from rustlers and other robbers. Firearms were also used for protection against Native Americans who often raided farms and villages. In 1884, Monticello passed an ordinance forbidding the carrying of firearms within city limits. This law remains in effect to this day. Firearms were still very important to many residents in this time period, and it was not until after World War II that ownership of firearms began to decline among Monticello residents. Today, most citizens own only shotguns or handguns for personal protection purposes.

The Monticello Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was founded in 1907 by Chance Witherspoon. The club met at the home of Judge George Hennepin. In 1912, the club purchased a gunsmith shop in Monticello, which served as their headquarters until it closed in 1951. In 1909, the club organized a muzzleloader derby competition against a team from Duluth. The first Monticello Rifle and Pistol Club cup was won by the Duluth club. In 1917, the Monticello Rifle and Pistol Club changed its name to the Minnesota Valley Rifle and Pistol Association (MVRPA). In 1919, MVRPA incorporated as a business entity with limited liability under the laws of Minnesota. In 1935, MVRPA adopted an organizational Constitution which provided for collective bargaining with local unions by membership dues-paying individuals wishing to become members of their Associations on an individual basis only; however this opportunity was not exercised due to World War II military service requirements that limited eligibility for membership to those who were U.S citizens or residents ofMinnesota’s “original thirteen states” includingMonticello
Monticello is a small town in the heart of Minnesota. The population was 5,528 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Monticello was founded in 1867 by Reuben and Emma Herndon, two abolitionists. The Herndons are buried in Monticello Cemetery. Monticello's economy is primarily agricultural, with crops such as corn, beans, and hay grown on its large acreage. There are also small businesses and a few manufacturing plants located in the town. The post office has been in operation since 1872 and currently serves an area extending from Hennepin County to Ramsey County. The community has a library which opened in 1966 and includes a branch for Monticello residents with disabilities. Monticello school system operates public schools that serve students from kindergarten through eighth grade. In addition to traditional classes such as reading, math, science, social studies, English language arts (ELA), and health/fitness class; there are now specialty classes such as wrestling or fishing instruction for young people starting out in school K-8th grades

Monticello is a small town in Anoka County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 323 at the 2010 census. The Monticello area was first settled by Norwegian immigrants in 1854. The community name derived from the Mount mansion which served as the home of founders John and Isabella Morris. The Mount property had been leased to them by their father-in-law, Ebenezer Emmons, who also donated land for a church and cemetery on it. In 1876, Monticello became part of the newly created Anoka County when it was organized from parts of Dakota Territory. It remained an agricultural community until after World War II when manufacturing became more important in the area. The post office at Monticello was established in 1889 and continued operation until 1954; its last letter mailed being "Mt" on November 3, 1954. In 1934, an elementary school (now known as Midget Creek Elementary) was built adjacent to Main Street and Monticello began receiving public funding through local taxing authorities for boys and girls grades 1-6 rather than relying solely upon private donations or tuition rates set by individual schools. This system continues to this day.
Monticello was founded in 1854 by Andrew Jackson and his wife, Rachel. The town was named after Monticello, a plantation located near present-day Alexandria, Virginia. The first store opened in 1855. In 1862, the Union army destroyed the plantation while under General Ulysses S. Grant's command during the American Civil War. Monticello was not among the towns targeted by Union forces; this prevented it from becoming one of Reconstruction Era Mississippi Territory."
