Monticello is a small town in the north-central portion of Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. It was founded in 1881 by farmers and missionaries from China who came across the Great Lakes on their way to missionary work. The community became known for its mills, which produced flour and paper for local marketplaces. The community also had a post office from 1881 to 1925. In 1916, Monticello's first school opened, followed by a church in 1922. The townspeople built a new courthouse in 1952 and an annex to it in 1971. Monticello has several cultural amenities, including an arts center and a library.

Monticello is a town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St.Paul metropolitan area. The Monticello Historic District encompasses a variety of 18th-century residences and businesses in the town center. The first settler in what would become Monticello was John Haglund on December 12, 1857. He and his family camped out on the banks of the Mississippi River for several weeks before moving upriver to what would become their home. On January 8, 1858, Haglund married Anna Nilsdotter from Sweden and they set up a farmstead near present day Elk River which they named Monticello after their father's estate in Lübeck, Germany where he had been born about 1790. They also acquired land east of Elk River for another farmstead and named it Ridgeway after one of their friends who owned some property thereabouts. In 1860 Isaac Nordquist arrived from Norway with his wife Julia and four children; two boys (Norwegian: Einar Lunde & Ole) and two girls (Anna Sofia & Hilda). He also brought along his trade as a carpenter and started building log cabins/homes soon enough! Nordquist farmed out some of his land to other pioneers until he sold most of it to Aamodt Bros./Lunde Brothers Farming Co., Ltd., which by 1870 held over 20 acres (8 hectares) within the historic district boundary including that now occupied by Monticello Elementary School #1A & #2A.* In 1865 Aamodt Bros./Lunde Brothers Farming Co., Ltd.(later renamed Taylor Implement Manufacturing Co.) bought all but 1 acre (0.4 hectare) within the historical district boundary from Nordquist’s successors* – Donald Cramer(1865), Charles Wohlmeyer(1867), Harry Smith(1869), Fred Hennepin(1871), Anson Hubbard(1872). From here forward it became known as “Monticello Township” although only 3 or 4 families lived there during its earliest years; these were probably scratchbuilders or itinerant laborers working off contract.* * Note: There are no gravesites associated with this group anywhere within Ramsey County today making identification difficult; those buried there may have moved away when consolidation took place in 1968-1970
Monticello is a city in and the county seat of Monticello County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 905 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1881 by Norwegian immigrants, who named it after their own home town of Eidsvoll. The first settler in Monticello was John McCulloch, who built a log cabin on the site of what is now the City Hall building in 1881. In 1887, postmaster George Fenton moved his family to Monticello from Rochester, Minnesota and continued to operate the post office there until 1909. In 1916, Monticello became a part of Minneapolis and its incorporation as a city meant that it became one of Minneapolis' five cities with corporate boundaries (the other four being New York City, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles). Monticello's economy has been focused on agriculture since its founding. The city has had two breweries (Monticello Brewing Company and Iron Range Brewery) as well as several small businesses such as carpenters and milliners. The cotton gin which served as an important part of local production until the early 21st century is still operational today; it produces about 2 tons per day of raw cotton for local consumption or export.
