In 1897, Monticello, Minnesota was first settled by farmers and their families. At that time, there were no guns in the area, so the farmers relied on shotguns to protect their crops and families. In 1907, Monticello began using handguns for self-defense. The first handgun owner in the town was Mr. John Wickersham. over the years, more and more people in Monticello started using handguns for protection and recreation. By 1920, handguns were being used mainly for target shooting at a local rifle range.
Monticello is a small town in southern Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,719 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The community is located on the banks of the Monticello River and has a historic center with restored buildings and a museum that tells the story of its namesake settlement. Monticello began as an agricultural community in 1868, when three brothers bought land east of present-day Minneapolis on which to build a summer home known as "Monticello." They named their house after Monticello, Italy, where they had been visiting while attending college at Yale University. When they died in 1893, their wives took over management of their property and continued to use it as a summer home until 1978. The town's first post office was established in 1872; it moved to its current location near what is now Interstate 94 in 1975. In 1907, Monticello became one of several communities laid out along State Highway 2 (now County Road 22) which connected them together through rural areas then virgin to county government. The highway was widened into four lanes in 1962 and designated interstates 94 and 169; because of this change, much of what is now downtown Monticello developed around milepost 24 (the original SH2 alignment). In 1969, the Town Board voted not to annex adjacent West Side Township due to concerns about possible competition from larger towns such as Maplewood or Eden Prairie; however, annexation would have followed later that year had the Town Board not overturned its decision by a 3-2 vote following public protestations from residents close to both neighborhoods. Since 2000, much development has taken place within Downtown Montellon limits: commercial development including an IHOP restaurant/bar complex opened in 2007 near Main Street across from the old High School building; new homes were built adjacent to businesses on Second Avenue south between Kirkpatrick Boulevard and Interstate 94 beginning in 2009; and two large mixed-use projects – One featuring 100 condominiums over 5 stories called The Park Place Apartments project[1] and another featuring 85 apartments[2][3] called Main Line Plaza – are currently under construction just north of IHOP’s main campus entrance next door at 10th Street NE

Monticello is a small town in Hibbing, Minnesota. It was founded in 1881 by railroad workers and their families who moved from Illinois. The population of Monticello was 1,827 at the 2000 census. The first settlers were farmers and their families who followed the railroads to various parts of the United States during the early 1800s. In 1881, Monticello came down the tracks and was founded on land that had been donated by James Mclntyre, a wealthy man from Illinois. The name Monticello comes from Mount Carmel which is located in County Mayo, Ireland. The town has always been an important part of Hibbing because it is home to several large businesses such as Macy’s (now JCPenney), Roy’sized Cheese (now Hennepin Farms) and Sears Department Store. In addition, there are many smaller businesses such as banks, restaurants and a Masonic Lodge that have helped support the community over the years. Monticello also has a rich history that can be traced back to its earliest days. The first settler in Monticello was John McNaught who arrived in 1851. He soon started trading goods with his neighbors and built himself a cabin near where he currently lives on Main Street. McNaught was one of the original incorporators of Hibbing when it was established as a city in 1872. Over time, other pioneers joined McNaught including Captain John Bohannon who arrived in 1876 and started selling hay to local farmers; Major George Ludden who built up much of what is now downtown; Drury Gorman who opened up an optometry store;and Mrs. Aikenwho set up her own bakery before moving into her current house on West First Street in 1902). This rich history doesn’t stop at Monticello either- many other towns throughout northwest Minnesota were founded by settlers during this time period including Riceville (founded 1865), Hutchinson (1871), Big Stone Lake(1875), Shakopee(1878), Crystal City(1879) and even present day Hibbing(founded 1881). All these towns used different names but all shared one common goal- making sure that their residents had access to quality transportation so they could get aroundeland for work or shopping purposes! These communities served as hubs for trade and commerce which helped keep rural areas vibrant while also providing opportunities for new generations of entrepreneurs to start their own businesses
Monticello is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The population was 5,845 at the 2010 census. Monticello was founded in 1854 by General Solomon Grundy and his wife, Maria Monticello. It was named after Mount Holyoke College, which Grundy helped found in 1847 as part of a larger effort to improve education opportunities for Native Americans in the area.
