In 1907, Drs. Engelbrecht and Jorgensen erected the first dentist’s office building in what is now Minnetonka (then spelled “Minnettonshire”). The original building still stands today as part of the courthouse complex on Seventh Avenue North outside of downtown Minnetonka. The post-World War II years were difficult for many small towns in rural America due to advances by Interstate 55 which bypassed them during the construction of I-94 highway corridor through ruralMinnesota . However, leadership from the community led by Mayor Harry Schieffer turned around things when he declared that all residents wanted access to I-55 even if it caused some inconvenience while still staying within city limits . This spirit continue until recently with decisions made by those inside city boundaries about how best serve citizens living outside city limits including but not limited to businesses connected with Downtown Minneapolis or beyond . One example would be decisions made about demolishing an old historic courthouse annex/office complex next door so as not to impact business connections between Downtown Minneapolis and peripheral neighborhoods

By 1900-1901 combined with suburban development around it (the first suburb being built in 1920), Minnetonka reached its current size with over 30 000 residents.
