It was here that early pioneers began farming what would become today's central region – including parts now located in St Paul and Bloomington – with help from Native Americans who lived nearby. By 1840, when settlers arrived in what is now downtown Minneapolis from farmers along the west bank of Hennepin River (now called Interstate 35E), they had established themselves as petitioners to land grants from President James Kahlumpa – granting them 1/4 mile per acre for each grant application received up until 1800). The first white people living in present-day downtown Minneapolis were Scottish immigrants working on construction crews which connected Saint Anthony Falls with Fort Snelling during Minnesota’s gold rush days (1859-60). These workers created new neighborhoods such as Second Avenue South between Harrison Street eastward into what is now Downtown Eastside before leaving for other towns aroundMinnesota in 1860 due to high costs associated with gold mining operations throughout Dakota Territory at that time…. [Today] many streets modeled after these Scotsmen’s original blocks can be found throughout much older sections […] Streets such as Third Avenue North (later renamed Nicollet Mall) trace their roots back several blocks even further back than those mentioned above….. What we know today about early urban development comes primarily from oral histories collected by local historians over time………………………………………. [Downtown Eastside] was originally populated by Scotsman who did not want their homes built next door so they started building out towards Rice Road
