In Minneapolis, there has been a long and varied history of optical accessories. During World War I,Minnesota played a major role in the war effort through its production of munitions and foodstuffs. The Minnesotan textile industry was also instrumental in helping contribute to Allied victory during the war. In 1919, photographer Edward Steichen portrayed American soldiers fighting on Omaha Beach during Operation Overlord while taking photos with his Leica camera system; these photos later became iconic symbols of World War II America. During this same time period, amateur photographers started using lightbulbs as photographic devices- primarily for landscape photography and advertising illustration purposes. One such example can be found at Northeast 9th Street & Lexington Avenue which is home to Pioneer Museum (www://pioneermuseummn). On July 1st 1907 – just three years after Minneapolis was founded – entrepreneur Gustavus Wernicke opened Wernicke’s Camera Store on Nicollet Mall (now part of Rice University) within walking distance of Union Depot station. This store served as a point of distribution for photographers throughout Minnesota until it closed its doors in 1971 due to competition from larger stores such as Sears Roebuck & Co.'s Camera Warehouse on Broadway across the street! Minneapolis was founded on June 20, 1854 by Captain James Peebles and Major George Armstrong Custer during the American Civil War as part of General John A. McClernand's Union army march from Vicksburg to secure control over the River Mississippi Valley route to St Louis. Minnesota became a U.S. state on November 16th, 1912; Minneapolis had already been an American territory since it was organized on December 14th, 1850 as a town in Dakota Territory under territorial law known as Act No 10-5-1850 (although its current name may date back to 1851). On July 15th 1907, Lumberjacks Strike: 711 Minnesotans were killed in what came to be known as the Lumberjacking Strike or Great Northern Lumber strike that began on July 15th 1907 and ended two days later when negotiators from both sides reached an agreement that preserved jobs for both sides but created huge disruptions throughout northwestern Minnesota . On October 11th 1909 local residents successfully petitioned Governor Milt Sweet to create a new City Council with power over zoning ordinances which would allow for more mixed use development including high rise buildings downtown rather than just single family homes like at present . The first election results showed that Aldermen John Carlson (D) & Harry Quigley (R) had won seats while Ward 4’s Clemenceau Herron (D) won reelection unopposed largely because no candidate ran against her incumbent status
In 1884, The Minneapolis Tribune was founded. It is the oldest continuously published newspaper in Minnesota and the second-oldest in America. In 1924, The Tribune merged with the Minneapolis Daily Herald to form The Minneapolis Times. In 1966, The Minneapolis Star-Tribune became an independently owned daily newspaper. In 1973, it merged with the Strib newspapers of Nashville, Tennessee to form The Tennessean Newspaper Company. On July 1, 2006, all six Strib newspapers were combined into one paper under the name of The Tennessean Newspaper Group.
