One of the most important aspects of any city is its physical infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, the streets and sidewalks, public transportation, hospitals and other public safety institutions. In Minneapolis, gun targets have been an integral part of the city's history for years. The first target to be shot at a public place in Minneapolis was a large white figure located on Nicollet Mall in 1865. The target was placed by General George Washington during his visit to Minneapolis. It was also the first time that handguns were allowed in Minnesota. In 1919, a shooting range opened up on Cedar Avenue in north Minneapolis and it quickly became one of the most popular shooting places in town. At its peak, there were over 20 firearms ranges across Minneapolis including two that operated simultaneously-one at 5th Avenue South and Oneida Street and another on Lyndale Avenue and Snelling Road. These ranges helped contribute to much social unrest throughout the 1920s as citizens competed for bragging rights with each other to shoot best at these Targets. The NRA also played a role in helping promote gun targets through their Gun Shows International (GSI) program which ran from 1935 until 1970. GSI helped bringTarget shooters from all over America together for exhibitions/gun shows that showcased American made firearms as well as imported European targets - some of which still remain standing today! This event would also feature local gun dealers who providedtarget ammunition and accessories along with food for attendees! On October 14th, 1966 Twin Cities Shooting Classic took place at McNamara Park near downtown Minneapolis when sixteen countries participated including Austria (with three rifles), Canada (three shotguns), Denmark (two pistols), France (four revolvers), Germany (six pistols), Hungary (ten rifles), Italy (four shotguns), Japan(eight handguns), Sweden(five rifles) and United Kingdom(eleven pistols). It was one of the largest indoor handgun matches ever held!!! sixty-six different types of firearms were exhibited with more than 2,500 shooters competing from thirty-seven countries!

This area became part of what is now Minneapolis after being bought by Peter K endeavoring to develop it into an agricultural center for his rapidly growing town on Lake Superior’s west bank.[6] Many Guttenberg families moved here also: Isaac Guttenberg founded Grosse Pointe Farms just north of downtown on Iron Works Road; another family member builtNBank Stadium near Case Western Reserve University (now Midwestern State University).[7][8][9] In 1854 John Doherty discovered coal under water at Third Street & Avenue S., which led to what would become Minneapolis’ first coal mine (the Doherty Coal Company was organized two years later).[10][11] Mining did not start until 1861 when a company called Dakota Mines began producing silver outcroppings near present-day Morningside Heights.[12][13][14]. By 1880 mining had increased enough so that local entrepreneurs bought out the original operators—what would become known as “the dragon kings”—to open new mines throughout northwest Minnesota including at Stillwater Springs,[15],[16],[17],[18] Blue Ridge Hill,[19],[20], Garden City,[21], Wabasha Hills,[22], Shakopee Lakes,[23]; North Shore Mine District No. 2 at Hermantown; Ramsey County Consolidated Minerals Co.; Montrose Coal Mine No., Ltd.; First National Bank open June 25th 1865; United States Patent Office opened February 14th 1865 – this marked an important day for American mining because it gave men power to own land outside traditional slaveholding interests

The first white settlement in what is now downtown Minneapolis was established on Maynard Street near Third Avenue South by John Atherton and others in 1845. In 1850s technology led to new subdivisions that included: Donaldson Heights eastward to Lyndale; northward along Second Avenue from Nicollet Street to Rice Avenue; westward along University Avenue from Snelling Boulevard to Mockingbird Lane; southwestward along Drury Lane from Eighth Street to Cedar Rapids Road; northeastward on Lake Harriet Boulevard from Lyndale Drive to Interstate 35W; southeastward on Interstate 35W from Highway 30E to Interstate 94W/I-94D; eastbound on I-94D southbound past Target Field before turning south again on I-94W/I-94D into Pioneer Place
In 1854, the city of Minneapolis was founded by farmers who had emigrated from Norway. The immigrants were landowning landowners who bought up some of the best land in what is now Minneapolis. They began to build homes and a city started to form. In 1862, the first school in Minneapolis was built on Superior Avenue. The city grew rapidly and by 1870, it had a population of over 100,000 people. The Panic of 1893 caused many businesses to close and unemployment increased in the city. However, popular governor George Hennepin helped revive the economy with his policies such as free speech laws and low taxes. The city's population reached 300,000 by 1907 but declined again during World War I because of military service. After the war, Minneapolis experienced growth as a metropolis with skyscrapers being constructed along Central Avenue and on Nicollet Mall. In 1927, Mayor John Norris became the first African American to be elected mayor of Minnesota when he won over two other candidates in an election that was seen as a referendum on race in Minnesota. During World War II, Minneapolis became one of America's largest cities with its share in production increasing from 3% to 50%. The post-war boom led to rapid expansion throughout downtown; however, housing prices continued to increase well beyond what could be afforded for most citizens even after rent controls were put into place following the 1971 recession. This period also saw major investments including construction of Interstate 30 (now known as University Street) which linked downtown with suburban areas; and Chase Tower which was completed in 1974 becoming one of downtown's most iconic landmarks
