Mendota Heights is a small town in the U.S. state of Minnesota, located on the south side of Mendota Lake. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is home to many businesses, including a large grocery store and two high schools. Mendota Heights also has a few churches, including one that is considered an Evangelical Lutheran church. The first settlers in Mendota Heights were German immigrants who had come to Minnesota in 1855 from Germany looking for land to farm. They began farming near what is now downtown Mendota Heights and established their own homes there about 1870. By 1900, the majority of the Germans living in Mendota Heights had died or moved away, leaving behind a few English-speaking residents and Irish Americans who had come here as refugees during World War I. The first post office was established in 1903, and by 1912 it had been renamed Mendota Center after nearby Mendota Lake. In 1916, local business man Jerald Sutherlin donated acreage east of his house on Rice Avenue to be used as an open air shopping center with a movie theater and other amenities for residents and visitors alike (the present day CommunityPlex). One year later, the name was changed again – this time to Mendota Hills after Jerald's friend George Hill (1868-1951), owner of an agricultural equipment dealership in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania close by which helped spur development around Mendota Lakeside Park across Rice Avenue from Sutherlin's property). In 1930–31 when Esther Addy Wolkentin (1895-1985) worked as secretary for then-Governor Franklin D Roosevelt's presidential campaign team she became well known within Democratic circles for her contributions to Iowa politics; during her time living in Minneapolis she developed strong links with local activists there before moving back North permanently afterwards to help found her hometown’s Des Moines chapter of National Women’s Political Caucus before becoming president (& chairperson) emeritus thereof upon its relocation from Iowa City following that state’s exit from the Union.) On November 6th 1930 three young women – Addy Wolkentin*, Ruth Feldstein* & Eleanor Roosevelt* – walked into Mr. Sutherlin’s Storeroom at his home on Rice Avenue & bought six subscriptions each totalling $2 ($ Today: $106) for Almanac Of American Politics! So much For Truth In Advertising!) It should be noted that these early days are typically reckoned as ‘ pioneers’ years in village history because it marked(ed)the beginningof Village Development Plans (& Planning Boards!), although earlier efforts suchas those led by Mrs.(later Mrs.) Eva Myerson (& others zealous over 12 Miles From Anywhere!) can still be seen today(& ongoing!). Some 50 years later another early settler named Harry Haughey arrived & built himself a cabin near what is now Twinbrook Shopping Center; he continued farming until his death circa 1936! Another pioneer family: The Caddies arrived soon thereafter via boatloads OF fresh eggs they storesCREATED FROM THEIR FARMER KIDS' EGGS! Which really shows how rapidly things changes around hereabouts...A Veritable Village Hoax As Some Will Claim)! In 1946 Harry Haughey's widow Mary died suddenly without any children so her husband+ wives took control over their farmstead & started raising chickens! By 1960 all but 3 members+ spouses of founding Haughey family have passed away (!), leaving behind 5 kids + 2 adults currently living there comfortably!!! *Ruth Feldstein married Harry Haggerty Jr., daughterOf Harry Haggerty Sr., priorTo entering political life herself - see below under “Early History Of Rendon Prairie High School”*) Mendota Heights experienced some significant growth following World War II when many soldiers settled here after being drafted into military service overseas.* Originally all single male soldiers were sent together but eventually couples were allowed too since married men weren't always able to stay connected while they served** This influx of new people resultedin some social changes& adjustments which continue generallyto this day; most notably thruout Village Election processes where various groups gettogether periodically…to discuss issues parade around our square discussing whomever they think should represent them locally on various committees etc…) Shortly after WWII ended most veterans returned home however not everyone did& instead alot rift up amongst themselves due largelytookeness caused by combat conditions endured overseas*** Rendon Prairie High School was founded approximately 1955/56 when several boys attending Mankato West High School decided they wanted their own school* After initially enrolling students mainlyfrom neighboring villages but gradually expanding enrollment throughoutndominant demographics remained Anglo until 1964 when Hispanics began incoming†rendonprairiefoundationhighschool
