Mendota Heights is located in northwestern Minnesota and has a population of over 130,000. The community was founded in 1881 by farmers from Holland Township. The first gun mag in Mendota Heights was the Dutchman Gun Shop, which opened its doors on Main Street in 1885. It was run by John Nolen and his son John Nolen Jr. until 1945. In that year, the business passed into ownership of the Nolen family's daughter, Betty Nolen Barragan. From then until 1978, Mendota Heights had its own paper mill and post office. After the mill closed down, the town stopped using stamps to print its local newspapers and instead used computer-generated images produced by a company based in Stroudsburg, PA. The last newspaper published in Mendota Heights was the Herald Examiner on April 15th of 2018.

Mendota Heights is a small city in Mendota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settlement in Mendota Heights was founded about 1855 by Captain John Silloway and his wife Margaret. They named their town after their home on the edge of a bend in the river where they had settled as farmers. In 1857, Captain Silloway's son-in-law, James Ladd, founded what is now known as Ladd's Prairie School District No. 1 which included parts of Mendota Heights and other townships around it until 1961 when it merged with neighboring Washington Township to form Mendota Hills school district No. 1 "The community that we know today began to take shape in 1857 when Captain John Silloway and his wife Margaret bought some land east of present day Mendota Heights and started to build homes." -Derek Henderson In 1877, William Monroe opened the first store in Mendota Heights - one of few businesses open during the early days of settlers in this remote corner ofMinnesota Mendota Heights became a township on December 15th, 1887 under Act 274 of 1889 On July 1st 1910 The City Council passed an ordinance establishing "Mendota Hills Community College". This new school district united all farm schools within its boundaries into one institution providing vocational training for women and young people from rural areas throughout Minnesota . On October 26th 1916 students from MHC celebrated its centennial with an event lasting three days including dances, picnics and fireside chats with Presidents Woodrow Wilson and Franklin D Roosevelt
Mendota Heights was founded in 1851 by John Mendota and his wife, Mary. The city was named for the Mendota creek that ran through it. The first businesses in Mendota Heights were a grocery store and a mill. In 1872, the town had a population of sixty-six people and two churches. In 1893, the city became a municipality with a mayor and council.
