Armed conflict has been a part of the history of Marshall, Minnesota for over 120 years. The area was first inhabited by the Dakota Sioux and later by the Ojibwe. In 1854, after the United States acquired land in what is now Minnesota, a military post was established at Winona to serve settlers on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The post served as a garrison until 1862 when it was moved to Marshall. During World War I, Marshall played an important role as an ammunition storage facility for U.S. forces stationed in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. After the war, Marshall became known as "the Arsenal of America" because of its contributions to munitions production throughout much of the 20th century. In 1955, Marshall was designated as a National Monument and has since been occupied by various federal agencies including the Department of Defense and Bureau of Land Management. Marshall is a small town in the United States. The population was 1,083 at the 2010 census. It is located in Dakota County and is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The original settlers were Norwegian Americans and they named their community after General George Armstrong Custer, who fought in the Indian Wars. The first store in Marshall opened in 1868 and was run by Ole Hansen. In 1915, Marshall had its first post office and by 1920, there were five stores and two restaurants in the community. In 1951, the first bank was opened in Marshall and until recently, it has been one of the most important businesses in the community. The town has several churches including Holy Trinity Lutheran Church which was built in 1896 and is still active today. There are also several playgrounds, basketball courts, tennis Courts, as well as a few baseball diamonds.

Marshall is a small town in Marshall County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settlers in Marshall were Levi and Anna Hetherington in 1858. The community was named for General James A. Marshall, who served as military governor of Minnesota from 1865 to 1870. Marshall had a post office from 1868 until it closed in 1901. The first school was opened in 1872 by Mrs. Catheryne Merrill. A flour mill was built near the intersection of Road 6 and Highway 8 in 1887 and soon became one of the most important businesses on the main street of Marshalltown. In 1902, the mill burned down and never reopened; however, it continues to be remembered as one of the earliest mills that went out of business due to technology advances then available. Another early business in Marshalltown was an ice cream parlor which operated from 1912-1927; it is now a museum dedicated to this establishment located on Main Street across from the Community Center). In 1930, charter member townships were created within Dakota Territory; Marshall Township became part of Fargo County when that territory was organized into states following World War II. The community experienced rapid growth during this time with many new homes being erected along Main Street including several hotels and restaurants which remain operational today including Purdy’s Barbecue (now known as Applebees), Wild Bill’s barbeque restaurant (now known as Golden Corral), Moe’s Tavern (now known as Moe’s Grille), Hi-Bites fried foods store (now known as Little Caesars Pizza) and KFC fast food restaurant & residences (now known as Super Target). Many residents also moved into neighboring counties such as Ramsey County or Nordtvedt County during this time period making Marshalls one of the largest communities withinMinnesota at its peak – all while maintaining its unique character which has helped make it an attraction for tourists ever since!

Marshall was founded in 1868 by prospectors John Marshall, Jesse Herold and James Shearer. The town was named for General Andrew Jackson, who had helped drive the Shawnee Indians from their land in Ohio. The first post office was established in 1870. In 1881, Marshall became a city. In 1917, it became a county.
