It is located in Hibbing County on the east side of the Mississippi River. Maple Grove was founded in 1851 by settlers from Albany, New York. In 1865, James Pappas came to Maple Grove from Rochester,MN with his fambly and bought two hundred acres of timberland east of what is now town square for $3 per acre which became town square today (Pappas House still stands). In 1881, when Hibbing County was created, maple grove became part of it as well. There were no logging operations then so lumber merchants brought out logs by boat or trainloads to be cut into boards or other wood products for sale throughout the state and country at prices set by government quotas determined by forest managers at that time. Lumber production increased during World War II because men were drafted into military service and many farmers went into industry to create jobs during wartime mobilization period; however, this led to significant decreases in demand for lumber due to changing technology as well as over-production around 1945 when war ended with Japan’s surrender Treaty ending hostilities globally but left most global markets closed until Marxist economic systems collapsed starting with Cuba’s Revolution six months later.) A new mill opened just north of town center in 1951 called Hennepin Lumber Company Mill #1 which produced plywood until 1973 when it closed because water levels rose behind dam gates causing great floods which destroyed much equipment including mills buildings housing up to 100 male workers) . In 1957 Hennepin Lumber Company merged with another Minneapolis company called Twin Cities Lumber Co., which had been producing plywood since 1932 under different name(the first two decades being called Dakota Plywood). This merger created what is now known as furniture manufacturing giant Wabash Furniture Division headquartered downtown (the original Wabash factory building design still exists within walking distance from downtown Hibbing today)). After Wabash moved its headquarters downtown they discontinued plywood production entirely although some pieces remain handcrafted today at old factory sites all over Minnesota .) What followed were years of technological advancement culminating with startup of sheet metal manufacturing company named Highland Iron Works- located right next door-producing aluminum products until 1984 when plant closing caused major layoffs amongst aluminum workerst) . Finally following several years primarily associated with retail sector (furniture store owners expanding capabilities into paper goods manufacture), current era has seen growth centered around Hospitality/Restaurant industries such as medical device manufacturer Medtronic Incorporated 2 blocks south along main street adjacent clinic where many patients come seeking care; Real estate development including office towers/condos complexes adjoining large hospital complex hosting outpatient surgery services; aircraft dealership about 10 miles northwest along I-94 off exit ramp leading directly thereto - necessitating construction annexation/widening streets leading thereto making access extremely difficult) The Glidden family lived here longest having emigrated from Sweden aged 5 back on October 12th 1840 arriving three days after ship Aulia reached Rockford Harbor IL en route to St Paul MN They farmed here until 1862 when they came downriver tributary river Mound Lake settling near present day White Earth Falls MN By 1870 Glidden had married Minnie Smith who had also immigrated earlier that year From Illinois Her parents had settled down around White Earth Falls prior to their arrival There father surveyed & owned 40 acres northeast corner Mound Lake & Indian Creek bank avoyled henceforth known as Red Wing Township Landing Wherever you look now your see remnants or evidence point towards original site especially if you hike streamside path running through village center between high school & senior high schools .
