Maple Grove is a small town in Dakota County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 2,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis–St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settler in Maple Grove was Alexander Campbell and his family in 1858. Maple Grove post office was established in 1875. The name "Maple Grove" was given to the town by John A. MacDonald from British Columbia, Canada for its abundance of maples (maple trees). In 1907, a Methodist church and school were built on what is now Main Street in Maple Grove. In 1912, the community had a grocery store and two other businesses before it became an agricultural community with dairy, poultry and hogs production becoming more important over time In 1924, when farmlands were acquired around Highway 8 west of town boundaries to make way for housing development, Maple Grove's first cotton gin opened as an addition to the local millinery business run by Mrs. Loring Henderson . That same year also saw the opening of what would become known as Main Street's most popular tourist attraction - Maple Grove Creamery - which continues to operate today as a full-service ice cream parlor/cafeteria with souvenirs and gift shop attached thereto! In 1928 construction began on Maple Grove High School; that building still stands today (along with many other historic structures) serving as centerpiece of downtown Maple Grove! Mapleton Elementary School replaced Main Street's original schoolhouse which burned down in 1978 while being used as storage during renovation work following an economic downturn that hit this rural community particularly hard In 1937 when Highway 8 realigned itself through central Dakota County such that it bypassed maple groves near town limits, much of what had once been rural farmland became neighborhood shopping areas for residents of neighboring towns who could no longer produce their own food or sell it themselves because access to markets had been closed off by I-94 traffic congestion outside the city limits

MAPLE GROVE, Minnesota (MUNICIPALITY: Maple Grove) is a city in Minneapolis County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 31,713 at the 2010 census. Maple Grove was founded in 1872 by German immigrants as a small community of twelve families on the west side of Maple Street near the future site of Target Field. The name "Maple Grove" is derived from maple trees that grew in the area. The city's first police officer was named Edward Jantz and its first fireman were George Vandemare. In 1906, Mayor John Hennepin placed an order for all stores to close at 6 p.m., which led to a campaign by citizens to keep their businesses open until later in the evening. The next year, discriminatory ordinances against African Americans were repealed and Maple Grove became one of only two cities in Minneapolis that did not ratify Mayor George Wohl’s Integration Plan. In 1929, when Minneapolis became nationally known as the "City on a Hill", Maple Grove joined other major Uptown neighborhoods such as Southdale and North Side with plans for downtown redevelopment project which would eventually include a new stadium for Vikings football team called TCF Bank Stadium and new housing developments called Park East Community Center and Lakeshore Drive Estates. However, due to economic factors such as low population growth rates during this time period as well as heavy investment by developers into downtown areas instead of into newly established neighborhoods like Maple Grove, Downtown Minneapolis experienced rapid decline beginning in the late 1970s through early 1990s; while maple grove continued to experience modest population growth throughout this time period thanks largely to its location within walking distance of several important nodes including Metrodome Stadium and Target Field - both then owned by private companies - making it easily accessible for residents despite significant declines in median household income across all neighborhoods outside Downtown Minneapolis over this same period). 2 million people moved into metropolitan MN between 2000-2010 according to MSA analysis done by Demographia
