Maple Grove is a village in Forsyth County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 582 at the 2010 census. Maple Grove is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first settlers in present-day Maple Grove were Jacob and Rebecca Cook who arrived from Massachusetts in 1849. They built a log cabin on what is now the east side of town and named it after their father, maple meaning “a tree well grown” in French. The first store was operated by John Kapp as a general store and post office on State Road 8 near today's intersection of Main Street and West Elm Avenue. In 1862, Mr. Kapp sold his business to James Hogenauer who operated it until 1868 when he sold it to John Myhre who operated it until 1888 when he sold it to Simeon Sigourney. It then passed through several hands before being purchased by David Olson in 1912 who developed it into the present day community of Maple Grove which incorporated as a village on November 17, 1913. Today, Maple Grove has an estimated population of over 600 people with its own police department, fire department, library system and shopping center/mall which are all located within walking distance of each other

Maple Grove is a small town in Minnesota that traces its history back to 1854. The first settler in Maple Grove was John and Jane Pritchard, who founded the town on the banks of the Ottawa River. Maple Grove became a census-designated place (CDP) in 1984 and has since grown to become one of the fastest-growing communities in Minnesota. Today, Maple Grove is known for its historic buildings and attractions, as well as its vibrant community spirit. The Pritchards were among the first Europeans to arrive in what is now Minnesota. They built their home on land that they purchased from Nicholas Latimer and his family. John Pritchard's wife, Martha, died childless after giving birth to two boys and one girl. In 1851, Jane Pritchard married David Wilson, who had moved from Detroit, Michigan., with his family to establish himself in what is now Minneapolis. The couple founded a grocery store and started trading goods with other settlers near present day Plymouth Avenue and Lyndale Avenue. They later acquired additional land around their store for farming purposes. By 1865, maple groves had been established along Lyndale Avenue where people gathered for feast days or sold honey from their hives when the weather was warm enough. In 1892, George Hargrave donated land east of present day Maple Grove for a school district which would eventually become Maple Grove School District #2A . On November 3rd of that year, Maple Grove School District #2A formed when several neighbouring school districts amalgamated into it following state consolidation efforts that were being made at this time due to funding requests from various government entities including school districts within new states such as Iowa and Nebraska . The unification of these schools helped bring much needed stability to an area which had experienced numerous changes over the years due to population growth , wars , natural disasters etc….. One significant event during this time period was when Jameson Sheppard opened his "Sheppard Grain Elevator" located on Main Street across from present day Forest Park Mall which became one of the largest grain elevator operations in North America This marked not only an increase in food production but also made MapleGrove an attractive destination for businesses seeking access to high quality produce available at low prices……..Another important development during this time period was when Apple Incorporated relocated their corporate headquarters from Chicago IL to nearby Roseville MN This move helped contribute towards increased economic activity throughout centralMinnesota thanks both directly (Apple INC.) as well as indirectly (the increased demand for goods resulting from higher levels of business activity). In addition there were many other notable events including: Pioneer Day on October 10th anniversary of early settler John Pritchard's arrival; 100 Years Celebrationof local bakery JF Gorman ; 50 years commemorationof local post office Stroudsburg ; 150 years commemorationof local physician Driscoll……….Today MapleGrove continues TO be a vibrant communityseverely lacking high speed internet service however residents are actively working togetherto provide some sorely needed services such as online banking , emailing services etc……………
