At that time, Winchester became one of the largest firearms manufacturers in the world. Winchester also began producing ammunition for handguns and shotguns byproducts of their munitions business

Mankato, Minnesota is a city in the U.S. state of Minnesota and the county seat of Wright County. The population was 17,505 at the 2010 census, making Mankato one of the largest cities in Minnesota. It is also the twin city of Minneapolis-Saint Paul. The first European settlers in what is now Mankato were French traders and fur trappers who came to North America as part of a fur trade expedition led by Pierre Le Moyne de La Salle in 1657. In 1821, Mankato was founded as a trading post on an estuary on the River Mississippi by Ebenezer Fenton and his brother-in-law Daniel Merrill. The town name originated with a Native American word meaning "big river." A post office called Mankato was established in 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. In 1856, when Minnesota became a state, Mankato became its county seat. The following year saw the arrival of General Alfred Sully's Expedition to survey and exploreMinnesota Territory for Congress before its admission into the Union as a state on November 8,1858. On July 10, 1861— days after Lincoln's inauguration as Ulysses S Grant's first Umpire—Mankato hosted a political rally to celebrate Ulysses S. Grant's election victory over Abraham Lincoln that resulted in tearful celebrations across the Twin Cities area that night; this event remains known as "the night of 10 July." In 1870–71 Hennepin County erected an iron bridge overriver from Mankatos original settlement at Point Defiance (now Leslie) Island to provide access to farmland around present day Old Town Mankato and across Elm Street from what is today Pioneer Hall downtown (then Stochelmark’s Hotel). The opening of Elgin Railroad service through centralMinnesota during World War I boosted economic development and helped make Mankato one of America’s leading industrial cities; however rapid growth brought social problems which climaxed with organized crime running amok during Prohibition era; this led to various law enforcement efforts culminating with passage by both houses of Congress Of The National Crime Control Act (1927) which provided federal funding for anti-crime programs including wiretapping/espionage prosecution under Section 215(a)(1)of FISA Amendments Act OF 2008 thereby preventing any future domestic spying by United States intelligence services without warrants or probable cause! Mankato was founded in 1849 by John A. Mankato and his wife, Eliza. The town grew rapidly and by 1870 it had a population of over 1,000 people. In 1872, the city of Minneapolis was incorporated and Mankato became its first municipality. The townspeople were quickly assimilated into the new city and many of them lost their jobs in the merger. By 1900, however, Mankato's population had reached 3,500 people and it continued to grow in size until World War II when its population dipped below 1,000 residents. After the war, the population slowly stabilized at around 2,000 or so before starting to decline again in the late 1990s due to an increase in immigration from Asia and other parts of the world.
