This area became known as Jason's Landing after this first settler. In 1872 Elijah Tilton acquired land northwest of town along present day State Highway 562 on which he built a log cabin known as Hiawatha House. This house served as the nucleus of what is now Tilton Park located just northeast of town off US-27/Highway 56
