Lino Lakes is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 3,370 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Lino Lakes was founded in 1881 by Daniel G. Smith and his wife, Anna Maria (née Wessels). The Smiths were among the first white settlers in what is now Ramsey County. The community name comes from an Italian word meaning "a deep stream". In 1882, Lino Lakes had just two stores and a post office. But by 1886, it had three businesses and a school. By 1890, there were ten businesses and a hospital in the community which served as both social services and health care for local farmers and their families.
