The town was named after John Lincolnton Linton, an American politician from Massachusetts who served as a U.S. Representative from Minnesota from 1889 to 1893 and again from 1899 to 1901. In 1881, a post office called "Lincolnton" was established in the town by order of the Secretary of State Francis Hennepin; it was discontinued in 1907 because of competition from nearby Wanamaker City. The town's first school opened in 1892; it became an consolidated high school in 1915 when Lino Lake High School merged with neighboring Maple Grove High School). In 1924, the towns of Harrison and Maple Grove merged into Lino Lakes; this arrangement lasted until 1973 when Harrison rejoined Lino Lakes as an independent town under the name of "Lino Lakes". The Apple Orchard located on Romney Road is one of only three open-air orchard displays left on earth (the others are at Garden State Park in Paramus and at Cornell University's Immaculate Conception Abbey). The other two are located atsected within University Village near Ithaca, New York and are not open to the public but have been used for research purposes by scientists across many campuses including Yale University, Columbia University and Rockefeller University among others since they were built over 50 years ago!

In addition to I-95 running through Lino Lakes' core, four other main highways serve as vital municipal arteries: County Road 522 runs perpendicular to CR 522 just outside the village boundaries; County Road 624 skirts around its eastern edge; CR 582 links exits 24N/24R (exit 124) west of downtown with exit 26E east of it; County Road 655 parallels US Highway 11 all around its eastern edge; and County Road 657 winds its way through a long arc southeastward from downtown until crossing into Minnesota just east of milepost 231st on CR 657's western boundary - forming what is dubbed township line although no townships actually lay within Township 657's borders quite apart from each other due to lack thereof after 1956 when several villages merged together into one larger municipality under this name but without corresponding borders between them - likewise Township 711 lying adjacent to but not contiguous with neighboring Villages 461 & 455 does not share these borders either despite overlapping jurisdictions by both entities some 40 acres or so according to 2006 Census data Accordingly even though Township 666 doesn't technically exist any longer as an entity insofar as residents live inside or close by municipalities defined solely by their township lines rather than any more specific borders - likewise neighbouring Village 711 shares only superficial cousinship status with fellowVillage 461 & 455 despite sharing an identical ZIP code - all three aforementioned entities still retain certain commemorative meaning within their respective community circles thanks primarily to their shared proximity both geographically speaking and historically speaking given how closely intertwined agriculture has always been among these three villages during what has probably been one of Minnesota's oldest continuous inhabited communities dating back over two centuries now
