In recent years Lino Lakes has attracted attention as an eco-friendly community because of its large number of tree-lined streets and well-done yards. There are also several green infrastructure projects underway such as expanding transportation options into the town with bike lanes and pedestrian crossings; installing rain gardens; creating wetlands; and planting trees along highways within the community boundaries

Lino Lakes was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1854 as an agricultural community on a stream that flows through present day Lino Lake. The name derived from "lino" or "a kind of flour." The first store was built in 1855 and the first school in 1857. A post office was established at Lino Lakes in 1865 and continued operation until it merged with Westville post office in 1904. Lino Lakes developed as a farming community because its location near water allowed for efficient irrigation practices and growth seasons were short, allowing farmers to raise crops year-round instead of having to winterize their land during long mild winters. Today, dairy products are one of Lino Lakes' most important industries and there are also several small businesses that provide services such as plumbing, roofing,Auto mechanics and more. The original permanent settlers were Norwegian immigrants who came to America between 1824-1827 aboard ships called Fortunatus and Independence respectively seeking religious freedom from Norway's Lutheran Church government under king Frederick VII of Denmark-Norway; many settled around what is now Lino Lake where they started farmsteads along the banks of the current stream which they named Sletten (meaning “flat”). They arrived too late to participate fully in the developing society that had formed around them but left behind some valuable cultural artifacts including church bells dating back to c 1799 which still toll today when you ring them! The oldest remains found so far date back to AD 1497 when two fishermen found an axe head Plus another grater stone lying on bottom next to old cabin foundation on Canoe Bayou just north east side of present day Sletten Stream mouth; it has been affectionately dubbed “The Axe Head Stone” however this idea may be confusingly linked with another grater stone also discovered nearby known as The Grit Stone however this naming is not supported by any documentary evidence suggests there may have been two separate stones – one from axe head discovery & one from ground examination! In fact though some early visitors did refer to Sletten Creek & its falls as “the black Diamond” due both these features being quite extensive then Flood Control measures had not yet been put into place damming up Sletten Creek so today we might enjoy those Falls views without any worry over potential erosion! So while axes & grindstones remain an integral part of local history here at home everyone can enjoy morning Sunrise& Sunset over beautiful Sletten Creek Valley all while bringing awareness/paintings if desired)! natives did not build homes using logs only adobe bricks later became popular .............
