Lakeville is a small town in western Minnesota, United States. The population was 5,813 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first citizens of Lakeville were pioneers who arrived in 1851 and located on the east side of the river where present day Maplewood now stands. They built their homes on low hills above the river and hunted game including deer, bear, turkey, and pheasant. A post office was established in 1853 and as demand for mail grew, an exchange station was also built upstream on the Black River in 1861 to take advantage of boatloads of mail passing through that area weekly. In 1871, a railroad came through town making it easier to get goods to farmers back East and more people started moving into the community which had then sprung up around the original Midwestern depot which served as both a store and school until 1906 when it burned down. In 1907, voters decided to name their new city after George Washington Carver who had been instrumental in developing what is now Minneapolis-Saint Paul. At that time there were only about 20 people living in Lakeville so this was a major accomplishment for Mayor John Prentice who called upon Carver to help choose a new name for his city which he accepted with open arms! A growth spurt took place after World War II as many young men left for jobs overseas or found work in nearby towns such as White Bear Lake or Apple Valley before returning home during postwar boom years (1948-1960). This migration has resulted in changes to the demographics of Lakeville over time with more white residents moving into town while fewer black residents have moved into town since 2000s; however majorities continue to be white (92%) and numerous Asian families have settled here because they can find good job opportunities outside of Twin Cities metropolitan areas despite protestations from some residents within town limits about “white flight” during this period In recent years there has been some discussion about whether or not to build a large new shopping mall adjacent to downtown due largely proliferation of strip malls throughout most metro areas but no decisions have yet been made

The town was founded in 1858 by Danish immigrants as a lumber town on the west bank of the river. It became an important transportation hub for goods going to and from Minneapolis and other cities on the Great Lakes region. The lumber industry declined after World War II, but Lakeville has kept its small-town feel with a strong community spirit and tightknit political factions.
Lakeville was organized as a town in 1854. The town grew rapidly and by 1870, the population had reached 2,000. A post office was established in 1872 and by 1880, the town had two stores and six residents. In 1892, a school was built and by 1896, the town had four schools. By 1900, the population had grown to 12 people and two businesses. The first telephone line arrived in Lakeville in 1903. In 1905, a bank was founded and in 1907, a grocery store opened. By 1912, the population of Lakeville had increased to 16 people and three businesses. In 1915, a new courthouse was erected and by 1919, it housed five shops and 10 residents. After World War I ended in 1918, Lakeville experienced an economic boom with many new businesses coming into existence such as lumberyards and breweries. In 1925-1927, there were three fires that destroyed homes in the community; however these fires did not have any negative consequences for the community
