Lakeville is a small town in Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is located in the Saint Cloud–Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Lakeville comes from two different sources: one meaning " lake" and one meaning "village." In 1855, the village of Lakeville was platted by Captain James Cook, who named it after his ship, HMS Discovery. Captain Cook's voyage discovered the Northwest Passage and made landfall in what is now Winnipeg on July 14, 1793. After landing here, Cook's men took to the woods for weeks before finally sailing back upstream to Fort Simpson on July 28th. On September 9th of that same year (1793), a group of men from Fort Simpson came across some trading goods being pushed downriver by a boat called Thetis which had been lost off Arctic shores earlier that day when ice conditions forced its return to sea. Early explorers found gold near present-day Minneapolis in 1824 and set about mining it but this never proved fruitful as no coins were ever found associated with this area. By 1870 only a few hundred acres remained below rapids where mining could be done; however, development continued nonetheless as farmland around Lakeside Boulevard was developed into housing subdivisions such as Excelsior Heights and Sunrise Hills during this time period. On October 15th, 1912 local residents voted 3-2 to annex Unorganized territory of Ramsey County which sat east of present-day Maplewood Avenue and north of downtown St Cloud until then unincorporated areas including parts of Spring Lake Township (now Maplewood) were annexed into Lakeville along with other townships within Ramsey County on January 1st 1915 effective retroactive theretoward inclusive; these changes followed an act passed by the State Legislature on November 2nd 1914 known as An Act To Suppress Resistance To Annexation Of Certain Townships Within Ramsey County And Other Places therein Makingwere Recorded As follows: 'That villages situated within or upon any river or stream within limits mentioned hereinbefore annexed by said county shall be hereafter subject to taxation under law repealed therefrom' In 1949 when St Cloud became an incorporated city it merged with neighboring Maplewood Township which became part of newly formed Sinclair County - joining communities like Spring Lake Township that had also been annexed into new Counties while still unincorporated areas like Maplewood were left untouched (the annexation process happened behind closed doors). So although Riverbend Drive seems pretty much completely deserted today since so many people moved away over 50 years ago...it once housed all sorts of businesses providing employment for locals and surrounding citizens alike back then!
