Inver Grove Heights Shooting Target Holder History began in the early 1920s when a couple of men, Harry and Ollie Petersen, decided to open their own shooting range. The first target holders were two crude wooden posts that were set up in a field behind the Petersen home. Over time, Harry and Ollie added more targets and amenities, such as a built-in bench for sitting around the fire to shoot at. In 1949, Harry passed away and his son-in-law, Don Hoehn took over running the business until he died in 1957. Don's widow maintained the business until she too passed away in 1984. In 1990, Harry's grandson Rick Petersen took over running the business with help from his wife Cathy Fensterkamp. Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota is a city located in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The population was 55,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Bloomington-Normal metropolitan area. Inver Grove Heights was founded in 1881 by Wm. Hargrave and Jno. McAtee as a small village on the west bank of the Saint Anthony River about nine miles south of Minneapolis and four miles east of St Paul. The first post office opened in 1882, and by 1886 Inver Grove Heights had become an incorporated town with a total population of 15 residents. The townsite was enlarged in 1889 when it became apparent that there would be no place for all of these people to live together on such an extensive frontage on what was then swampy land. The name change came after three storekeepers who owned land adjacent to the river submitted plans for a shopping center and high school which they called "Inver Grove Heights High School". When those plans failed to get funding, they reworked them into "Inver Grove Heights Junior High School" but lost money again so they renamed it again to "Inver Grove Heights High School". In 1907 their second attempt at getting money from the state legislature led to incorporation as a city under terms offered by Governor John Davenport because then “the Township could do more things that were necessary for its own development” (Foner). After years of struggles with various members of government over control over local services including education, zoning, fire codes, streetlights, trash collection etc., Inver Groves merged with neighboring Bloomington in 1963 (Bauer) bringing muchneeded economic stability and growth to both cities; two decades later today IGG has announced that it will sell its assets to Bloomington-Normal for $225 million making it one of America's largest single mall real estate transactions ever (www2a1b1c11d5dd6). One result was an increasein diversity among residents – African American residents made significant advances through integration into mainstream society while Hispanics/Latinos slowly began coming ashore amid increasing social protest against discriminatory practices perpetrated by white officials
Inver Grove Heights was founded in 1854 by John V. Ingersoll, a Quaker and his wife Eliza. It became a city in 1912 after it was annexed by Minneapolis. The population of Inver Grove Heights increased from about 10,000 in 1870 to over 60,000 by 1930. The city's first library opened in1892 and the first public school opened in 1896. In 1924, the City Council announced plans to build a new hospital which would be the largest in Minnesota. Construction began on the hospital in 1927 and finished two years later. The new hospital inaugurated what is now known as “the City Hall Building” which housed the city hall until 1969 when it was replaced by the present building. In 1954, Inver Grove Heights received its own radio station WGFL-FM which initially aired country music programming before becoming an all-news station with current events coverage during World War II and other conflicts. The station changed its name to KTSP-FM in 1978 before moving to its current frequency of 105.3 FM in 1990 after becoming an independent news outlet focused on politics, opinion, and local community news from within Inver Grove Heights
