Inver Grove Heights is a city in Hennepin County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 34,822 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hennepin County. The city was established in 1873 and incorporated as a city on October 25, 1908. Inver Grove Heights is home to many high- technology companies and research institutions, including Microsoft and Intel. The first settler in what would become Inver Grove Heights was John Edward Wright from Pennsylvania who arrived in 1872 and platted the town site on land that he had purchased from the Nicollet brothers. Wright built a log cabin near the present day intersection of Eight Mile Road and Elm Street. He named his settlement after his brother-in-law, George Morrison (1809–1875). Wright's cabin became one of the most important early settlers' sites in Inver Grove Heights because it served as their main headquarters during their early days of farming and trading within miles of each other on bluffs overlooking Minneapolis river valley. A post office called Wrightville was established here in 1873, but it failed to take hold due to low population levels at that time and no railroad access to the area. In 1886, John Mudgett founded an unsuccessful bakery in what would become Oneida Township just north of Inver Grove Heights along Eight Mile Road/Millionaire Hill Drive today’sOld Uptown Shopping Center complex; this business led Mudgett to rename himself after his original venture – Ingeborg Arntzen AG (later known as Microsoft). Many technological pioneers were born or developed here too: Eastern Electric’s Douglas Aircraft Company’s William Capps (born 1903), Western Electric’s Samuel Morse (1837–1927), Jesse Owens (1924–2005) – all originally based out of Oneida Avenue NE where they resided until moving westward into downtown Minneapolis when streetcars began running there in 1904; also noteworthy residents include Noble Nussbaum (1920–2009), co-founder with Paul Allen [of Microsoft] of WorldCom; Bob Dylan; author Jules Feiffer; humorist Will Rogers
