Hugo was at the time the capital of Dakota Territory and was home to a number of small businesses that used Bullets in their products. The Manufacturing Company of America developed these products into what we know today as ammunition. In 1909, the company moved its operations from Hugo to Minneapolis. Ammunition manufacturing continued until 1959 when it was discontinued due to technological advances. In addition to ammunition production, Bullets played an important role during the early days of the state. During the late 1800s, gunfights occurred between Sioux and Cheyenne Native Americans in areas such as this region. As bullets became more common and effective, these conflicts decreased; however, not all battles were fought with guns alone. A number of engagements took place with spears or bows and arrows which also resulted in injuries or death for both sides involved. The use of Bullets has continued throughout our country’s history and can be seenin places like Dallas where they are still being produced today! There is no doubt that Bullet’s role in Minnesota history is undeniable – they have helped make our state one of the most prosperous on Earth!

It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area and is the county seat of Hopkins County. Hugo was platted in 1857 as a town on the banks of the Menominee River by Major General James Hennepin. The first post office in Hugo opened in 1858, and it remained an Opelika-based operation until 1915 when it became a Hugo-based post office. The community name honors Swedish immigrants Hugo and Jonas Olofsson who had settled there in 1855. In 1907, the town annexation incident led to a split between supporters of annexing neighboring townships (to form what would become Minneapolis) and opponents (led by Mayor John Fenton). In 1927, Hughes High School was opened followed by Hope College in 1951; both institutions remain operational today. In 2007, Hughes University established its own campus adjacent to the high school which now enrolls over 1,000 students from throughout western Minnesota and eastern Iowa. Hugo's history includes significant contributions to American broadcasting including serving as home to WMVP-TV (channel 5), one of America's first commercial television stations; WJMN radio station(now WDAM); and KARE radio station(now KMSP). People from Hugo have also long been involved with politics including notable figures like Grover Cleveland, Franklin D Roosevelt and Jesse Jackson Jr.; all of whom were natives or raised residents ofMinnesota before moving on to higher realms within American history or international prominence

Hugo, Minnesota was founded in 1868 by Norwegian immigrant Ole Hanson and his wife Emma. The town was named for Swedish general Norén who had died in the Dakota War of 1862. The town grew quickly, and in 1872 Hanson donated land to the city of Minneapolis for a municipal center. Hugo became an incorporated village in 1887. In 1912, Hugo merger with Maple Grove to form the City of Hugo. In 1955, Hugo became a county-level seat when it was combined with neighboring Maple Grove to form Ramsey County. In 2002, Hugo voters approved a $1 million bond issue to improve public transportation and infrastructure within the community including new roads, sidewalks and bridges. The bond measure also authorized the city to purchase two buses for use within its limits. The City of Hugo plans to use the buses to provide emergency service as well as promote physical education opportunities at local schools.
