Hastings, Minnesota is a small town located in the central portion of the state of Minnesota. The population was 3,816 at the 2010 census. Hastings has been inhabited for over two hundred years and is one of the oldest towns inMinnesota. The first settler to arrive in Hastings was James W. Hastings on December 6, 1854. Hetland Cattle Company organized a drive through the area in search of land to homestead and began selling land to settlers in 1855. In 1857, James Noyes established a sawmill at what is now known as Noyesville on the east side of town. In 1865, Hetland Cattle Company sold its holdings to John Schieffer and his brother-in-law George Armstrong for $3,000 dollars cash. Hastings became an incorporated village on October 15th, 1865 under the name of Hastings Village Incorporated. On November 2nd 1870, a fire destroyed all but one building in downtown Hastings Village with only six residents left behind to rebuild from scratch. The original post office was established here on January 12th, 1872 and served until it closed on December 17th 1902 due to budget cuts by then Governor Jesse Loring Thompson Sr.. The first store open in this new community was Huckleberry’s Store which opened its doors September 7th 1870 during Reconstruction times when goods were hard to come by because Of Union Blockades and other shortages caused by warring factions within America. This store would become an important staple for local businesses for many years until it closed its doors again around 1975 due to lack of customers or competition from larger stores that had moved into town during that time period.$ In 1886 when both Stroudsburg (now Wichita) County and Benton County were formed out of parts of Dakota Territory following territorial claims made by Sioux Indians led by Sitting Bull after their defeat at Little Bighorn Battlefield within Nebraska Territory), Hastings voted not to secede from Benton County citing fears about losing its railroad connection with Minneapolis/St Paul making it easier for goods brought into Fargo/Mankato etc.. When more than half way through the 20th century there wasn’t much development taking place within this small rural town so most people decided not too worry about it as they enjoyed good quality life without any big city distractions like malls or shopping centers popping up everywhere else across America during that time period($). After many years without much action being taken towards revitalizing downtown Hastings Village or anything happening there outside of occasional car meets or Heritage Days events held throughout the year ($), Mayor Byron Shearer finally convened a meeting between himself ( board member ), City Manager Donny Iverson (Vice President – Facilities Management & Development Services) & representatives from several nearby businesses who wanted something done about their concerns back in 2016$ A few months later $$$ we submitted our request for proposals which included ideas such as targeting youth programming services (& free breakfast breakfast every morning!), developing additional retail space inside or adjacent to existing businesses& creating more public spaces within downtown where citizens could gather together enjoy fresh air & views while engaging their fellow citizens$ We received 11 responses including 4 professional proposal authors who proposed various initiatives ranging from adding market stalls featuring local artisansproducts& unique items along with live music nightly throughout winter evenings right up until spring break! All proposals were seriously considered but ultimately declined due mainly because none would have resulted in increased business hours OR reduced costs associated with initiating any changes$ We are excited about what came next! After careful review we narrowed down our selection OF INITIATIVE PROPOSALS TO 4 THAT WOULD BE IMPACTING DOWNTOWN HASTINGS VILLAGE THE MOST: A NEW BUSINESS PARK THAT WILL PROVIDE MUCH NEEDED SPACE FOR BUSINESSES INCLUDING STORES AND A HEALTHCARE CENTER+ ADDITIONAL FREE BREAKFAST EACH MORNING FOR CHILDREN UNDER 10 YEARS OF age! A NEW SQUARE FOOTBALL FIELD WITH MAIN EVENT SCHEDULE CONTAINING GAMES ALL WINTER EVEZ FROM 6 PM TO 12 AM EACH NIGHTFOR EVERYONE WHO VISITSDOWNTOWNHASTINGSVILLAGE$ A NEW LOCAL ARTIST SHOWALLOWANCE PERIOD WHERE CLUBS CAN SELECT ONE COME OUT FOUNDATION PROJECT TO MAKE THEIR MARK ON OUR COMMUNITY$ Finally another project commonly referred To As “The Beehive Project” which will consist OF BUILDING AN ADDITIONAL TWO STORIES HIGH STREET HOTEL WITH ENOUGH ROOMS FOR MORE THAN TWENTY SUBSIDIARY rooms PLUS RECEPTION AREA ALLowing PERSONS FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO FIND TRUE HOME HERE WHILE ALSO SUPPORTING INTEREST IN TECHNOLOGY EVENTS $$
Hastings was founded in 1854 by James Hastings and his wife, Rachel. The first store was built on the current site of the Hastings library. In 1876, the Hastings post office was established and it remains active to this day. In 1886, a sawmill was built in Hastings and continues to be operated today. In 1898, a railroad was completed through Hastings and it soon became a popular destination for farmers looking for market access. The town continued to grow throughout the 20th century with more businesses being opened up and population growth making it one of the most competitive communities in Minnesota. In 2002, Hastings received a grant from the state government which allowed for new development to take place at its core square which led to increased business activity and population growth.
