In 1971, Douglas Hastings passed away again and his son Dean took over control of the company. Additionally in 1978, Dean also began production of black oxide finished receivers which became popular due to their corrosion resistance. Hastings, Minnesota is a small town located in the Canadian province of Manitoba. The population was 1,024 at the 2010 census. Hastings is part of the Winnipeg–St. John's metropolitan area. Hastings is one of only a handful of towns in Manitoba that still operates a post office from 1876. The first settler in Hastings was James McKenzie who arrived on July 8, 1876. The original post office was called "Manitoba" and opened on October 6, 1876. It served as the seat for Hastings County until it was moved to its current location in 1893. The first store in Hastings opened on December 3rd, 1886 and remained open until 1954 when it closed due to economic conditions within the town. In 1959, the town upgraded their infrastructure which included new roads and bridges with an expenditure of $2,500 dollars During World War II, Hastings served as a military airfield known as "Algonquin". In 1942-1945 there were over sixty aircraft based at this airfield which included several H-6E Pusan IIs (Hastings Daily Review - August 25th 1945) . After the war ended however all flights were cancelled due to lack of fuel . Today Algonquin Airport remains a flying field used by recreational pilots
