Hastings, Minnesota is located in the heart of the Dakota Territory. It was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1854 and named after their hometown of Volda. The area now known as Hastings had a population of just over 100 people in 1870 when it became part of the newly created County of Ramsey. In 1903, ammunition stocks were destroyed during a natural disaster that struck nearby Mounds National Monument. This event left Hastings with scars that continue to this day. Hastings is home to Hastings State Technical College and Hastings High School. The town was named after General John C. In 1865, Wirth married Anna Maria Hagedorn and together they founded the Hagedorn Manufacturing Company which manufactured wagons, Ships' Wheel Makers' Tools, horseshoes, clocks and other items until it went bankrupt in 1902. In 1868, Nathan Seltzer bought land around present day Hastings High School for $1 million dollars and started to build a dam on Swan Creek which would create Lake Superior (now known as Chisago Lakes). Seltzer named his new community Hastings after General John C. Hastings who had helped him win the Mexican-American War against Mexico two years earlier. After Seltzer's death in 1901, his son Harold took over management of his business but lost interest in it during World War I when there were no wars being fought abroad so he sold everything including the dam site to United States Army Corps of Engineers for $10 million dollars which created Chisago Lakes National Park today. On July 20th 1907 by an act of Congress entitled "An Act To Purchase Lands near Chisago Lakes National Park", Harry Emerson Fenton became owner of all of what is now known as Chisago Lakes Township including present day Hastings where he decided to name his new community "Hastings". By 1920 more than half a century later, most residents had moved away or been replaced by non-native Americans so on October 15th 1945 with another act Congress entitled "A Resolution Encouraging Migration into these Territories" Hastings again became its own municipality with Harry Emerson Fenton as Mayor

The decline of agriculture during World War II led to a decline in population growth throughout most ofMinnesota; however, Hansen's grocery store managed to keep pace with changes in food preferences through its many iterations over the years - including an English language version (1955-1985) - which helped contribute to local legend that "Hansen's was always open" when other businesses closed due to lack of customers or competition. During this time period too many people moved into rural areas surrounding Minneapolis so that only 6 percent of all residents lived within 2 miles (3 km)of downtown Minneapolis proper; this statistic has since dropped slightly but remains below 10 percent statewidetoday). In recent decades much attention has been paid to downtown revitalization efforts spearheaded by Mayor Betsy Hodges and her predecessor Ron Huberman; however,, despite assurances given by both mayors about stability goals for Downtown during their final terms in office respectively (), little progress has been made towards achieving these objectives despite some increased public investment (). One possible reason for this may be attributable to increasing tensions between city activists and developers associated with non-traditional economic interests (); while advocates have succeeded in pressuring elected officials into action on issues such as affordable housing or better transportation options for Downtowners., development pressures may nonetheless be contributing factors behind lackluster results overall.).
