Ham Lake is a census-designated place in the town of Plymouth, Minnesota, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. It lies on the west bank of the Ham River, approximately east of downtown Plymouth and west of Interstate 94. The settlement began as a small farmstead called "Natchez" on the northeast side of Ham Lake in 1881. By 1906, it had grown to include a gristmill, store and some homes. A post office was established at Natchez in 1907, and by 1916 there were six residences and two stores. In 1951, when Plymouth incorporated as an unincorporated community, Ham Lake became part of that city's borders. The hamlet remained an agricultural center until after World War II when automobiles began to become more popular and home construction increased. After 1945, many residents left for jobs outside the area or for other locations within the United States because of economic opportunities opened up during the war years. During peacetime from 1949 through 1957, there were no homicides reported in Ham Lake; however during wartime (1946–1951), there were three such murders which remain unsolved to this day . Community members have made donations towards solving these cases over time including $3 000 raised by local resident Donny Rocha in 2018 as part of commemorating 50 years since Natchez Creek School burned down .
