Ham Lake is a small town in Minnesota, United States located on the Ham River. The population was 530 at the 2010 census. The hamlet straddles the border of Ramsey and Morrison Counties. It lies east of the city of Hibbing, north of White Cloud, and west of Rice Lake. The hamlet's name is derived from "Hamel" or "Hammel". The first settler in Ham Lake was John Smith who arrived in 1827. He named his land Hamsic Valley after his Dutchman farm companions Hamel and Valkenburg who had accompanied him on his journey from Holland to America. In 1847, Andrew Stevenson purchased two hundred acres of land from John Smith for $100 cash. This tract included present day Ham Lake and portions of Rice Lake, Morrison County. Stevenson built a log cabin adjacent to his farmstead which still stands today as a museum piece known as the Stevenson Cabin Museum. In 1851, Alexander Neely bought one hundred acres from Stevenson for $120 cash and started building a house on this property which he called Neely House . At first it consisted only of a crude cabin with no other structures erected until 1861 when he added an oven and bake shop to his home which became known as Neely Labs . In 1865, Ole Hanson moved to Ham Lake with his family from Norway and began growing corn (maize) on his original homestead site that later became known as Hanson Field . From here he exported quality maize products all over Scandinavia before moving back to America in 1886 where he founded Hanson-Neely Emporium grocery store in Minneapolis . When World War II began, Norwegian veterans were drafted into the U S military and many found themselves stationed at Camp Meade near Minneapolis . After the war ended they returned home but continued to grow corn until their acreage was exhausted so they decided to sell their holdings in 1948 which led to the founding of what is now known as Ham Lakeside Farms Incorporated & Grain Elevator

Ham Lake is a small town in Laclede County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 571 at the 2000 census. It was named for Samuel Ham (1819-1900), an early settler. The first settlers in this area were James and Jane Weller, who arrived in 1854. The Wellers started a gristmill on the south side of the lake and this helped to start the community's growth. In 1870, John Jenson bought land around Ham Lake from the Wellers and began to develop it into a small town. By 1904, the population had increased to 1,000 people and by 1920 it had reached 2,000 people. During World War II, Ham Lake became one of five communities that were part of Pinedale Army Airfield which serviced American forces in Europe. After the war ended, many of the businesses closed down but some continued to operate until they eventually merged with other local businesses in 1995. Today Ham Lake is a largely residential community with a few commercial buildings remaining scattered throughout its center. It has been recognized as a heritage village by both the National Register of Historic Places andMinnesota State Historical Society since 1978.
Ham Lake is a lakeshore located in Polk County, Minnesota. The lake was formed by the retreat of the Ham River from its valley and by deposition of sediments from the nearby Missouri River. The name comes from Finnish hamu, meaning "shore" or "bank".
