Golden Valley is a small, rural community in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 549 at the 2010 census. The community is located within the Minneapolis–St. Paul Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Golden Valley were Norwegian immigrants who arrived in 1852. They built a log cabin on what is now Main Street and started farming to support themselves and their families. In 1868, two brothers from Norway named Lars Anderson and Odd Reidar Selstad bought land northeast of town and began growing crops and raising livestock. They named their farm "Golden Valley". In 1927, the first high school in Golden Valley opened for students in the area. That year, the name of the school was changed to "Ramsey County High School". In 1966, Golden Valley formed a village corporation which granted voting rights to its residents. That same year, it became an incorporated town when voters ratified a charter amendment that allowed it to become an official city with its own police department and mayor. In 2002, Golden Valley voted to join the Twin Cities metropolitan area as part of larger metropolitan transformation efforts known as "legacy City 2050". As part of this effort, Golden Valley was given authority to set its own zoning policies and set aside money for development within its borders rather than waiting for approval from Minneapolis-St Paul officials. Today, Golden Valley has a diverse economy including agriculture (primarily corn), manufacturing (including several businesses related to printing presses), services (including health care), real estate services,and retail trade among others

Golden Valley was founded in 1854 by ruthless miners who were looking for a new location to mine gold. The town quickly became known for its valuable gold mining properties and the fertile farmland that surrounded it. In the early 1870s, Golden Valley saw an influx of immigrants as Minnesota became a more ethnically diverse state. Irish, Germans, Swedes, and Italians all began to settle in the town while others came to work on the local mines. By 1875, goldenValley had become one of the most important small towns in Minnesota. The Gold Rush of 1849 had brought many people to Minnesota but not everyone found success inmining. Many farmers turned their attention to growing crops and raising livestock instead of profiting from the precious metal they had discovered. However, some men did make money from theirgolden valley properties- among them J F McNamara, who built what is now McNamara Elementary School in 1892. GoldenValley also experienced some significant technological advances during this time including the construction of a water tower and first telephone line in 1899. However, despite these successes, economic conditions deteriorated following World War I and residents faced difficult times during Prohibition Era (1919- 1933). The Great Depression caused widespread unemployment throughout Minnesota as well as increased poverty and social inequality within Golden Valley society. However, Mayor John Frey (1920- 1926) fought for several years for relief programs which helped turn around the community’s fortunes. Despite these challenges, Golden Valley continued to grow with many new residents moving into the town during World War II when production resumed at nearby Minnesotaproducts plant #1A (now Target). Afterward, growth slowed until 1990 when major redevelopment transformed downtown into a vibrant center filled with art galleries and major retailers such as JCPenney and Kohl’s department stores
The Golden Valley area was first settled by the Dakota and Ojibwe nations in the 18th century. The area became part of the United States in 1854. The town of Golden Valley was founded in 1865, and it became a city in 1907. The city was destroyed by fire in 1915, and it re-emerged as a small community after being rebuilt. Golden Valley is currently an agricultural town with a population of around 120 residents.
