It is the most populous town in Hennepin County and the second-most populous municipality in Minnesota. The name "Fridley" is derived from German settlers who named it Fridricht after their farmstead on the banks of the Brandywine River. The first post office in Fridley was established on December 8, 1881, serving residents of Hamburg Township. On November 15, 1907, Fridley became a city when its citizens voted to secede from Hamburg Township. In 1911 voters approved annexation by Minneapolis. The city charter was adopted on February 2, 1912; and on March 1st of that year Fridley became a full member of the City of Minneapolis. On January 1st of every year since 2002 there has been an annual 5K run/walk called "Fridleysfest." This event helps raise money for local charities and causes that are important to the community such as scholarships for local students or building new parks or playgrounds.

Fridley is a small town in Ramsey County, Minnesota, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Fridley was Isaac Newton who arrived on July 12, 1854 from Illinois and named it after his birthplace of Frelsburg, England. In 1869 Michael Haggerty founded a flour mill in what is now Fridley. Haggerty's mill produced flour for Minneapolis-Saint Paul and other nearby towns as well as export to Great Britain and Scandinavia. The mill closed in 1902 but reopened in 1908 as the First National Bank of Fridley with assets totaling $5 million dollars. It folded again in 1975 but reopened again as the Stroud Grain Mill Company in 1984 before closing again in 1992; it currently operates as a grain elevator serving farmers near the town square. On December 10, 1886, Charles Bigham bought 160 acres (66 hectares) southeast of Fridley from George Herndon for $2,000 cash and set about building a log cabin that would become his farmstead called "Bigham's Cabin." He continued to live there until his death on May 5, 1951. His wife Nannie also kept house there until her death on February 17th of that year. On October 10th 1920 Mrs Emma Ludwig married Mr John Ludwig who had come toFridley from America two years earlier with his family grocery business which he ran for six years before folding up shop operations into one store which he operated successfully until 1951 when he lost interest due to changing tastes within American society towards larger supermarkets In 1935 Pritzker Family member Willard Wirths donated land east of town along Rice Street for instructional use by teachers at SouthernMinnesota Technical Institute becoming known later as EasternHighSchools Campus District #1 or simply EHSD#1 where students today still attend classes through their many choice programs including college degrees As early as 1872 when immigrants started moving into Ramsey County they began acquiring parcels of land hereabouts such as this one giving rise to what is now known as "Fridleys" nameakes place providing fertile ground for agriculture ever since! One reason why this particular parcel came onto more than one person's radar screen during these early days was its proximity to an existing water power mine hosting some high grade iron ore veins leading into Duluth which made this location ideal both politically & economically! So much so that early 20th century mapmakers depict both rural villages located within easy access only minutes away or even seconds if you could run fast enough! township boundaries were fluid & constantly redrawn making self definition difficult (& sometimes impossible!) We must remember all too often how our history truly reflects our daily reality...a Reality check if you will!
