Forest Lake, Minnesota is a small town in the far northwest corner of the state of Minnesota. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Forest Lake is named after a large body of water that forms its eastern border and flows into Rice Creek to the south. The first settler in Forest Lake was John Wolfskill in 1857. In 1916, a group of farmers who were moving from Plymouth to start their own farm started a mill on the south side of Rice Creek known as the Wolfskill Mill Company. In 1925, Douglas MacArthur visited Forest Lake while he was campaigning for president and had dinner at one of his homes there with some local businessmen before going on to Mankato for an election rally that night. When he came back to America he recommended that Congress build a dam across Rice Creek so that water could be brought overland from Dakota Territory intoMinnesota rather than shipping it all through Iowa via riverboat or train. After World War II ended, many people left Forest Lake for various reasons including agriculture because there were no more trees or farmland available; however, some stayed because they could not find work elsewhere after being discharged from military service; they formed what became known as "The old timers." Some things that are still remembered by these people include: buying ice cream from Mrs Jones during summertime when she had her stand on lakefront; playing cards every Saturday night around 7 pm when Mr Blythe would come out onto his dock to sell greased paper boats; going swimming every other day during summertime when there wasn't any water available (pools have been opened up since then); hayricks being built near by where people would stack their hay bales during winter time so they wouldn't have to go outside to get it; and fishing tournaments held every Fourth weekend throughout May where everyone would bring their catch home with them and cook up whatever food they caught! Forest Lake has experienced some changes over time too: In 1978 there was a fire which destroyed most of the town's buildings including the Post Office, restaurant and several homes; afterwards much renovation took place with new structures such as churches (First Baptist Church & Methodist Episcopal Church), schools (Lutheran School & Jesse Garber Elementary), businesses (TheWolfskill Mill Company & Old Time Radio Shack) etc.. There has also been growth within nearby Mankato which has seen development along 2nd Street which connects both towns - this includes restaurants such as Forever21 and Target - as well as new construction including new housing developments like One Two Three apartments - all designed by architect Don Zimmerman - just north of forestlake on Commerce Road!
